RESUMOO objetivo do estudo foi analisar a intenção do aluno do ensino médio, de tornar-se doador de sangue e medula óssea. O trabalho justifica-se, pois, a doação de tecido hematopoiético pode dar suporte ao tratamento de várias doenças e os hemocentros possuem dificuldade para assegurar a quantidade de doadores para manutenção dos seus estoques. Trata-se de um estudo observacional com abordagem quantitativa onde um questionário foi respondido por 331 alunos do ensino médio de 5 escolas públicas do município de Uberaba após momento de conscientização realizado por extensionistas. Os resultados foram apresentados em frequência absoluta e relativa para as respostas. Dois terços dos alunos não conheciam seu tipo sanguíneo e não tinham conhecimento sobre os temas doação de sangue e de medula óssea, 95% dos alunos nunca haviam realizado doação de sangue e ao final da execução do projeto de extensão, os dados evidenciaram que 84,6% dos alunos apresentavam-se a disposição para se tornarem doadores de sangue, 52,4% apresentaram interesse em se cadastrar para doar medula óssea, 86% se mostraram engajados para compartilhar o seu aprendizado com seus amigos e familiares e 98% utilizavam redes sociais. Podemos concluir que a execução das ações extensionistas de esclarecimento e conscientização com alunos do ensino médio quanto aos temas doação de sangue e de medula óssea foram fatores determinantes para despertar o interesse na doação e o engajamento social desta parcela da população e a diversificação dos meios para abordagem, através das redes sociais, pode contribuir para aumentar a captação dos jovens doadores nas escolas.
