Palavras-chave adicionais: acidez do solo; adubação; calagem; pH do solo. AbstractDry matter evaluation is one of the ways of investigating plants producing capacity as well as the effects of mineral nutrients application. The objective of this experiment was to evaluate the effects of soil liming on the production of dry matter by alfalfa plants in a distrophic red latosol. The experiment was set according to a completely random design, with four repetitions. The six doses of lime were of 0, 1.23, 2.34, 3.42, 4.53, and 5.63 t ha -1 these doses expected to raise bases saturation to 13, 30, 45, 60,75 and 90%. Forty days after soil liming the plants were cut at the soil surface level to have their dry matter content determined. Soil samples were taken for the routine soil analysis. The results showed a regression quadratic effect of doses of lime on dry matter production and the dose of 4.83 t ha -1 of lime is adequate for maximum productivity of dry matter , that is, 1.452 g vase -1 . It was concluded that liming increased alfalfa dry matter production and had a positive effect on all soil chemical variables.
