Las fracturas expuestas se caracterizan por una disminución de la continuidad ósea, con exposición al exterior, debido a esto, son frágiles a complicaciones como situaciones infecciosas. Muchas de éstas, son debidas a traumas de alta energía. Su clasificación se basa según el mecanismo de producción, la lesión de los tejidos blandos, la conformación de la fractura y la contaminación. La prioridad del tratamiento oportuno es conseguir una adecuada prevención de la infección, así como también, la estabilización y consolidación de la fractura, así mismo se debe tratar de obtener una restauración en la función del miembro afectado con un manejo adecuado.
