Objective: To know the health-related consequences of caring for dependent relatives in older adult caregivers. Method: Qualitative research carried out with older adult women who cared for family members enrolled in a federal public home care program. The identification of the older adult caregivers was done by consulting the patient's charts, and the interview took place from March to June 2017. The data were systematized based on Content Analysis. Results: Six older adult caregivers of people with impaired functional capacity participated in the study. Three categories emerged: care-related musculoskeletal pain; health problems related to the somatization of the lived feeling; and self-care deficit by virtue of caring for another. Conclusion: The study revealed the consequences of caring for dependent family members on the health of older adult caregivers. Careful management is essential to prevent and/or reduce health problems, especially regarding the musculoskeletal system. Objective: to know the conceptions of nurse midwives about the care guided in the best practices to the women in the delivery process. Method: descriptive research with a qualitative approach developed in a Federal Maternity-School. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 20 nurse midwives, and the speeches were categorized according to the thematic content analysis proposed by Franco. Results: the study reveals that care based on best practices should be based on scientific knowledge, avoiding unnecessary interventions and encourages the use of non-pharmacological techniques for pain relief, appropriate environment, individualized care, the bond between professional and parturient, as well as its role. Final Consideration: while criticizing the excess of interventions, nurse midwives value noninvasive techniques and interpersonal relationships, as well as the subjectivities of the parturient that contributes to the humanized care in the delivery process.
Objective: to understand the phenomenon of marital violence based on the experience of women in judicial process and network professionals. Method: a qualitative study, with theoretical-methodological support in grounded theory. Data collection took place in two regional Courts for Peace in the Home in a municipality of the Brazilian Northeast. Interviews were conducted with 38 participants, who composed two sample groups: women in situations of violence and network professionals. Results: the understanding of marital violence emerged for the phenomenon “Experiencing marital violence as a progressive and cyclical process, with repercussions for health and implications for social relations”. Conclusion: in recognizing marital violence as a recurring problem in the life of women, with implications for their own health and that of their children, the study points to the relevance of coping strategies based on institutional and social support.
Objectives: to know the organizational and pedagogical characteristics of vocational courses in nursing of Unified Health System Vocational Schools in northeastern Brazil. Methods: this is a qualitative, descriptive study, developed in six schools that offer this course. As a data source, Pedagogical Political Project and Teaching Plans were used to search for information on courses’ organizational and pedagogical characteristics through indirect documentation, using three structured scripts. Results: most of the characteristics of the courses are convergent between schools, but pedagogical characterization items do not exist, presenting themselves as fragility regarding the outline of such normative characteristics. Final Considerations: the characterization of the courses demonstrates the schools’ commitment to training professionals aiming at quality of healthcare/nursing in/for the Unified Health System. However, the weakness found in the documents emerged as a challenge to be overcome, in order to better subsidize teaching and learning and qualify training.
Objective: This work sought to identify, in the discourse of educators, which strategies they can implement, within the school setting, to prevent and cope with the experience of domestic violence by adolescents. Method: Qualitative study based on the critical-liberating perspective of Paulo Freire, conducted with 20 educators from a public school in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. To collect the data, the interview was used and, to systematize them, the discourse of the collective subject. Results: The discourses reveal the following coping strategies of domestic violence experienced by adolescents: place into action the Guardianship Council; create reception and listening spaces for students; strengthen bonds between the school and family; promote educational actions, and articulate knowledge. Conclusions: The study provides paths to prevent and confront family abuses that compromise the physical and mental health of children and adolescents, with impact upon school performance. The study suggests the contribution of primary health care through actions linked to the Health in School Program and the insertion of the theme of violence in the different university careers, given that caring for children and adolescents and defending them constitutes an obligation for all citizens.
Objective:To understand factors interfering with the attendance of quilombola children to growth and development follow-up appointments. Method: It is a qualitative research based on Symbolic interactionism, during which 14 mothers of children bellow 1 year-old were interviewed, who attended to the Family Health Unit at Ilha de Maré, Bahia, Brazil. Results: Appointment attendance is affected by factors intrinsic to mothers (meaning of child health follow-up; association between appointments and children falling ill; personal issues) and extrinsic factors, related to the service (availability, long waiting time for appointments and its quality). Final considerations: An administration prioritizing the service's organization is required, which can prioritize attendances and the reduction of waiting time, specially given the personal issues that compromise going to the unit. RESUMOObjetivo: Apreender fatores que interferem na assiduidade de crianças quilombolas às consultas de acompanhamento do crescimento e desenvolvimento. Método: Pesquisa qualitativa ancorada no Interacionismo Simbólico, durante a qual foram entrevistadas 14 mães de crianças menores de um ano e que frequentavam a Unidade de Saúde da Família de Ilha de Maré, Bahia, Brasil. Resultados: A assiduidade às consultas sofre influência de fatores intrínsecos às mães (significado do acompanhamento à saúde infantil; vinculação das consultas ao adoecimento da criança; questões pessoais) e fatores extrínsecos relativos ao serviço (disponibilidade de agendamento, amplo tempo de espera para as consultas e qualidade das mesmas). Considerações Finais: Urge uma gestão que priorize a reorganização do serviço, com prioridade aos agendamentos e o aprimoramento profissional, tendo em vista a melhoria da qualidade do atendimento e a redução do tempo de espera, principalmente considerando as questões pessoais que comprometem a ida à unidade. Método: Investigación cualitativa con base en el Interaccionismo Simbólico, en la cual se entrevistó 14 madres de niños menores de un año de edad y que frecuentaban la Unidad de Salud de la Familia de Ilha de Maré, Bahia, Brasil. Resultados: La asiduidad en las consultas sufre influencia de factores intrínsecos a las madres -significado de seguimiento para la salud infantil, asociación de las consultas con la enfermedad del niño; cuestiones personales-y de factores extrínsecos relativos al servicio -disponibilidad de agenda, mucho tiempo de espera para las consultas y su calidad-. Objectives: to discover what were the contributions of the Reflexive Group from the perspective of men being sued by marital violence, who participated in a social technology. Methods: qualitative study, resulting from the evaluation stage of an action-research, based on the perspective of Critical Freedom and carried out with 44 men who were being sued in the Peace at Home Courts, in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. Results: the discourses of men being sued for marital violence showed that the reflections enabled them to share their experiences; understand their attitudes as disrespectful, violent, and liable in criminal courts; elaborate of strategies for a harmonious marital life; and become multipliers as a result of their willingness to socialize the information and knowledge that emerged from their group. Conclusions: the study presents a successful experience of the participation of men in reflexive groups and is a precedent for the validation of this social technology.
Objective: Unveiling the precipitating elements of conjugal violence based on the discourse of men undergoing criminal prosecution. Method: This is a qualitative study developed in a Domestic Violence and Family Violence Campaign against Women from Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. Results: We interviewed 23 men. The following central ideas emerged: children and family interference; change in woman’s behavior; feeling of ownership; discovery of extramarital affairs of women; absence of marital sexual intercourse; and use of alcohol and other drugs by men. Conclusion: Several elements precipitate marital violence according to the mens’ discourse. Knowing these elements can subsidize actions for preventing the phenomenon, especially from implementing peaceful conflict resolution strategies.
