ABSTRACTThe shrub-arboreal component of a floodplain forest, located in the alluvial plain of the Barigui River in Araucaria-PR was studied. The researched area was limited to places of same soil type (Glei soil) and the level of the water table was measured in a central point of the 20 plots of 100 m 2 , correlating this physiographic feature with the obtained phytosociologic parameters. The individuals with minimal perimeter of breast height (PBH) of 15 cm were valued, resulting in 29 species found. The most important was Sebastiania commersoniana (Baillon) L.B. Smith and R.J. Downs (branquilho), followed by Allophylus edulis (A.St.-Hil., Cambess. e A.-Juss.) Radlk. (vacum). The small sise of the individuals, the large number of individuals with multiple boles and the expressive importance of dead trees were atributed to enviromental stress. Less flooded places provided better diametric development and only at the micro-topographic elevations most species of lower phytosociologic values were established.Key words: floodplain forest; floristic composition and structure.
Palavras-chave: estrato de regeneração, floresta com Araucária, floresta Ombrófila Mista, lençol freático, nutrientes do solo ABSTRACT -(Species distribution relationships of different strata and soil characteristics in an alluvial forest in Paraná State, Brazil). Soil characteristics are the most important factors influencing species distribution in alluvial forests. Here we evaluated species composition, diversity and structure of three forest strata and their relationship with soil characteristics in a fragment of alluvial forest in the Iguaçu River basin, Paraná state. We asked if forest structure and diversity can be explained by edaphic and hydrological factors. We evaluated structural variables and floristic composition of three forest strata: regeneration stratum (20 cm ≤ height ≤ 1.30 m; 80 subplots, 1 m×1 m), intermediate stratum (perimeter at breast height -pbh < 15 cm, height > 1.30 m; 20 subplots, 5 m×5 m) and upper stratum (pbh ≥ 15 cm, 20 subplots, 10 m×10 m). In addition, we correlated species abundance with soil parameters in each subplot. The fore...
A total of 14 epiphytic bromeliad species have been recorded at Iguaçu river floodplain, some being exclusive to the Ombrophilous Dense Forest, others to the Semideciduous Seasonal Forest, and one third group common to the two vegetation types. The species number decreased downstream along the river, in coherence to the equivalent reduction in the water availability defined by the climatic types. The degradation geomorphic surfaces presented the highest diversity indexes, which can be associated to the longest developing time of these geomorphic features and the presence of non-hydromorphic and semihydromorphic soils. In local scale, the maximum width of the floodplain and the average width of the river are negatively correlated with bromeliad richness, which is associated to strong anthropogenic disturbance. The proximity of the phorophytes with the river influenced positively bromeliad richness, probably, through the humidity and luminosity increment. At the same way, the phorophytes with the largest diameters presented greater richness of bromeliads, indicating, principally, that the time of exposition of substrate is important, what agrees with literature. The maintenance of forests close to streams and large trees is fundamental to epiphytic bromeliad conservation purposes at Iguaçu river floodplains.
