Abstrak. This study aims to analyze students' mathematical connections in terms of their initial ability to material opportunities. This type of research uses a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method with the design of this research is the Two Group Pretest-posttest. The population of this study was all students of semester VI Physics Tadris UIN Sulthan Thaha Saifuddin Jambi, totaling 42 people. The sampling technique used was saturated sampling with research instruments in the form of test descriptions. Data were analyzed using a paired t-test test. From the calculation results, the value - ttable ≤ tcount ≤ + ttable is -2.02 ≤ 7.84 ≥ + 2.02, then H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted at the significance level α = 0.05. So it can be stated that there are differences in student learning outcomes with high initial mathematical abilities compared to low initial mathematical abilities. The results of the research correlation test (test phi (Φ)), where the calculation results obtained rtabel value ≤ rcount, namely 0.305 ≤ 0.873 then H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted at the significance level α = 0.05. So that it can be revealed that the initial mathematical ability has a significant effect on student learning outcomes on probability. Abstrak. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis koneksi matematis mahasiswa dilihat dari kemampuan awal terhadap terhadap materi peluang. Jenis penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan metode quasi experimental dengan desain penelitian ini adalah the Two Group Pretest-posttest. Populasi penelitian ini adalah seluruh mahasiswa semester VI Tadris Fisika UIN Sulthan Thaha Saifuddin Jambi yang berjumlah 42 Orang. Teknik sampling yang digunakan adalah sampling jenuh dengan Instrumen penelitian berupa tes uraian. Data dianalisis dengan menggunakan uji ttest. Dari hasil perhitungan diperoleh nilai -ttabel ≤ thitung ≤ + ttabel yaitu -2,02 ≤ 7,84 ≥ + 2,02, maka H0 ditolak dan Ha diterima pada taraf signifikansi α = 0,05. Sehingga dapat dinyatakan bahwa terdapat perbedaan hasil belajar mahasiswa kemampuan awal matematik tinggi dibanding dengan keamampuan awal matematik rendah. Hasil penelitian dilanjutkan uji koreslasi (Uji phi (Φ)), dimana dari hasil perhitungan diperoleh nilai rtabel ≤ rhitung yaitu 0,305 ≤ 0,873 maka H0 ditolak dan Ha diterima pada taraf signifikansi α = 0,05. Sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa kemampuan awal matematik memberikan pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap hasi belajar mahasiswa pada materi probabilitas.
Identification of students’ difficulties is an important part of designing a quality learning. This research used survey method that aims to identify the difficulties experienced by students in understanding the concept of work and energy. The research subjects consisted of 142 undergraduate students in physics education (46 first-year students, 39 second-year students, and 57 third-year students). Data collection was carried out from 2018-2019. There are 10 multiple choices questions that are used to uncover the difficulties experienced by students. Based on the results obtained it can be concluded that many students still have difficulty in understanding the concepts of work and energy. The percentage of students who answered correctly are 20.42% in concept of work as a result of dot product multiplication; 11.26% in the work-energy theorem; 38.03% in the concept of spring potential energy, and 22.54% in the conservation law of mechanical energy.
This paper aims to reveal the effectiveness of a multi-representation approach in work and energy learning in improving students’ conceptual understanding. This research is an experimental study with the design of one group prestest-posttest design. The research subjects were 42 undergraduate students of Physics Education in the subject matter “physics material and learning I”. The test instrument consists of 15 reasoned multiple choices questions. Based on the results of data analysis using paired sample t-test obtained t = -9.39 (p = 0.00) so it can be concluded that the multi-representation approach in work and energy can significantly improve student understanding of concepts with N-gain of 0.41 and d-effect size of 1.76. Before learning with a multi-representation approach, many students had difficulties to interpret the diagram of kinetic-potential energy. But it have minimalized after instruction. Learning with a multi-representation approach is effective to increase the students conceptual understanding of work and energy because it helps students understand the concept of physics as a whole.
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan pemahaman konsep mahasiswa pendidikan fisika dalam memahami konsep kalor. Penelitian dilakukan pada mahasiswa S1 pendidikan fisika (37 mahasiswa semester 2, 21 mahasiswa semester 4, dan 14 mahasiswa semester 6) dan 24 mahasiswa S2 pendidikan fisika. Data yang diungkap difokuskan pada pemahaman konsep kalor jenis dan kapasitas kalor. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa mahasiswa masih mengalami kekeliruan dalam memahami beberapa konsep, diantaranya (1) menyatakan bahwa kalor jenis dipengaruhi oleh massa, kalor dan perubahan suhu, (2) memaknai kalor jenis besar sebagai benda yang mudah mengalami kenaikan suhu, dan (3) menyatakan bahwa kapasitas kalor dipengaruhi oleh kalor dan kenaikan suhu.
