Objetivo: Descrever a implementação do projeto “Acolhendo quem Acolhe” da Universidade de Pernambuco, no Centro Integrado de Saúde Amaury de Medeiros em Recife/PE. Métodos: Trata-se de um estudo qualitativo, descritivo do tipo relato de experiência desenvolvido a partir da vivência das ações realizadas pelo Projeto de Extensão Acolhendo quem Acolhe, no período de junho a dezembro de 2015, realizado no Centro Integrado de Saúde Amaury de Medeiros, na cidade do Recife, PE. As etapas envolvidas na realização das atividades consistiram em: diretrizes, sensibilização profissional, estruturação e execução/acolhimento. Resultados: Verificou-se a vivência dos alunos extensionistas voltada para a sua atuação profissional através da responsabilidade de orientar os acompanhantes sobre seus direitos durante o atendimento hospitalar, contribuindo para uma vivência mais consciente do processo de parto e nascimento, bem como oportunizou aos acadêmicos um contato precoce com ações baseadas nos preceitos da humanização. Conclusão: Verificou-se que os momentos vividos pelos estudantes possibilitaram conhecer, compreender e identificar a transformação da realidade. Contudo, alguns profissionais ainda se encontram resistentes acerca da aceitação do acompanhante durante o trabalho de parto, e na presença dos alunos extensionistas. Sendo esse o maior impasse encontrado, a superação dele se dá mediante a construção coletiva através do diálogo.
Este artigo apresenta, de forma modificada, o projeto de pesquisa elaborado como requisito para a aprovação na disciplina Projeto Interdisciplinar ministrada pelo prof. Dr. Cayo Honorato no Curso de Graduação em Artes Visuais (Bacharelado/Licenciatura) pelo Departamento de Artes Visuais da Universidade de Brasília no primeiro semestre de 2017.
