Taking a trip through the 20th century, starting from the modern vanguards, which inaugurated the discipline, this article sought to make an overview of how the relationship with science was approached by certain design groups. At the end, an exposition of this debate in contemporary times was made, using the dialog established between Robert Farrell, Cliff Hooker, Per Galle, and Peter Kroes. The arguments used by the authors were analyzed through the discussion of the thing in itself, a concept present in Immanuel Kant's philosophy that was later criticized by Friedrich Hegel. Through the Hegelian development of the question, this article was able to establish a position that design does not have enough characteristics to be considered science.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
