Considerando as práticas de ensino atuais, voltadas principalmente para o desenvolvimento intelectual das crianças, negligenciando o conhecimento corporal, espontâneo e instintivo, o presente artigo objetivou compreender os benefícios da educação somática na infância, através do olhar simbólico da psicologia analítica para o movimento. Realizou-se uma revisão de literatura, com métodos explícitos e sistematizados de busca, apreciação crítica e síntese da informação selecionada, sobre os principais estudos que tratam da educação somática, movimento e dança. Os dados analisados mostram que a educação somática traz benefícios para a tomada de consciência corporal, a articulação e a exploração do movimento e também para a expressão interna das crianças. Existe um maior domínio corporal e um maior conhecimento de si mesmo e do outro, o que contribui para o desenvolvimento emocional, físico e social, além de possibilitar que o indivíduo investigue toda sua potencialidade e espontaneidade, promovendo o processo de individuação. Por se tratar de pesquisa qualitativa, os resultados encontrados não se prestam a generalizações. Nesse sentido, sugere-se novas pesquisas a respeito do tema.
