Dado o recente debate a respeito da necessidade de uma reforma do sistema tributário brasileiro, este artigo teve como objetivo avaliar os potenciais impactos econômicos e distributivos de duas reformas tributárias. Para cumprir esse propósito, utilizou-se um modelo de Equilíbrio Geral Computável estático para a economia brasileira. Foram realizadas duas simulações. A primeira consistiu na substituição de parte dos tributos indiretos por um imposto do tipo IVA. A segunda considerou a mesma união dos tributos indiretos, mas com uma alíquota IVA inferior, concomitantemente à retomada da tributação de lucros e dividendos. Os resultados de ambas foram positivos sobre PIB, consumo das famílias, investimento, exportações e salário real, principalmente no longo prazo. Além disso, ambas implicaram em queda na desigualdade e na concentração de renda. Entretanto, o segundo cenário apresentou melhoras mais expressivas nesse quesito. Portanto, evidencia-se a possibilidade uma reforma tributária que melhore a eficiência econômica e gere distribuição de renda.
