La producción irregular en mango se atribuye a variación en la floración. Prohexadiona de calcio (P-Ca) reduce crecimiento vegetativo y favorece floración en frutales templados como manzano y subtropicales como aguacate. En mango ‘Ataulfo’, no hay información al respecto. El objetivo fue determinar dosis, época y número de aplicación de P-Ca en mango ‘Ataulfo’ con la finalidad de asegurar f loración y encontrar un sustituto para paclobutrazol (PBZ). El estudio se realizó de 2012 a 2014 en Tepic y San Blas Nayarit, en ambos años, los árboles fueron podados después de cosecha. Experimento 1 y 2: P-Ca (150, 250 y 500 mg L-1) a 0+10+20+30 días después de la poda (ddp) y 30+45+60 ddp, respectivamente. Experimento 3: P-Ca (500 mg L-1) una, dos o tres aplicaciones a 0, 0+10 y 0+10+20 ddp y Experimento 4: P-Ca (150 y 500 mg L-1) a 30+45+60 ddp y 1 500 mg L-1 en una sola aplicación (1 x) 30 ddp. En todos los experimentos se incluyó un tratamiento estándar de PBZ (2 500 mg L-1) 30 ddp y un testigo (agua más surfactante). El diseño fue completamente al azar, 6 repeticiones, un árbol como unidad experimental. En Experimento 2, se logró reducir un 35% el crecimiento vegetativo con P-Ca 500 mg L-1 (3 x) entre 30-60 ddp. Esta misma dosis de P-Ca (500 mg L-1) (3 x) a 30, 45 y 60 ddp, o una sola aplicación (1 500 mg L-1) 30 ddp logró igual el efecto de PBZ en adelanto (20-35 días) y porcentaje de floración. En los dos ciclos, ambos productos mejoraron amarre y producción de fruto. Con base a los resultados obtenidos se considera que P-Ca pudiera ser un sustituto para PBZ en mango ‘Ataulfo’ para asegurar floración y producciones regulares año con año.
El alto porte y copas cerradas en frutales crean condiciones propicias para el desarrollo de plagas, reducción en el rendimiento y dificultan las prácticas de manejo. El crecimiento de los árboles puede ser controlado mediante la poda, lo que favorece la penetración de la luz, alta productividad y calidad del fruto.El objetivo fue conocer el efecto de diferentes tipos e intensidad de poda, sola o combinada con detergente, sobre poblaciones de escama blanca, producción y calidad de fruto de mango ‘Ataulfo’. El estudio se realizó durante 2012-2013 y 2013-2014 en huertos del municipio de Tepic, Nayarit. Se establecieron dos experimentos: uno para determinar el efecto de intensidad de poda (0, 50 y 75 cm de despunte) y otros con tipos de poda (sin poda, tipo cubo y tipo pino), con o sin aplicación de detergente bajo un diseño experimental completamente al azar con arreglo factorial (3*2). La intensidad y tipos de poda disminuyeron 15- 20% la floración en el año inmediato a la poda, pero en el segundo año ésta se incrementó en árboles podados. Al segundo año, árboles con poda ligera y severa incrementaron el rendimiento en 26 y 20%, respectivamente, respecto a los testigos; con poda tipo cubo y pino el incremento fue 14% y 21%, respectivamente. Los árboles podados produjeron frutos de mayor peso y no tuvieron daño por escama, en tanto que árboles sin poda y sin detergente presentaron leve daño por escama. La poda y la aplicación de detergente en árboles de mango mantienen bajas las poblaciones de escama blanca en los meses de mayor incidencia.
Los reguladores de crecimiento incrementan el tamaño de fruto al modificar el patrón de distribución de fotosintatos, o al incrementar el número y tamaño de células. El objetivo fue determinar el efecto de reguladores de crecimiento en la acumulación de azúcares y en el número y tamaño de células en mango ‘Ataulfo’. Los tratamientos fueron: T1 aplicación de 50 mg·L-1 de TDZ a 0 días después de plena floración (DDF) combinado con tres aplicaciones de AG3 (50 mg·L-1 ) a 15+30+45 DDF. T2 correspondió a la aplicación de TDZ+AG3 (50 mg·L-1 de c/u) a los 15+30+45+ 60 DDF. T3 Testigo. El diseño experimental fue completamente al azar, se evaluaron tres tratamientos con cuatro repeticiones y un árbol como parcela útil. Las variables evaluadas fueron: Longitud y diámetro de frutos, contenido de carbohidratos, número y tamaño de células. Se logró incrementar el tamaño de fruto hasta 20 % con T1 y de 23 % con T2, respecto al testigo. El contenido de azúcares fue similar en los frutos con o sin regulador de crecimiento. A los 45 DDF, el número de células varió de 3526 a 4603 mm2, T1 presentó el mayor número aunque fue estadísticamente igual al encontrado en T2. En T2 el tamaño de las células se incrementó 30%, con relación al testigo y 23% respecto a los frutos de T1. El incremento logrado en el tamaño de frutos partenocárpicos estuvo asociado a una mayor división y elongación celular. Los frutos polinizados tuvieron células más grandes que los partenocárpicos.
