-The sorghum is a kind of prominence before the cultures used in succession in the Brazil. However, little information concerning the effects of residual activity of herbicides on the crop in this region are known. The objective of this study was to evaluate the residual activity of herbicides used in weed management in soybeans as well as check their effects on grain sorghum grown in succession. For the field experiment, we used a randomized block design with four replications. Eight herbicide treatments were evaluated: imazaquin (0,161 kg ha -1 ), diclosulam (0,035 kg ha -1 ), sulfentrazone (0,600 kg ha -1 ) and flumioxazin (0,05 kg ha -1 ) in applications made before emergency and chlorimuron-ethyl (0,015 kg ha -1 ), imazethapyr (0,060 kg ha ) applied post-emergence soybean (V3 stadium, 18 DAE), and a control without herbicide application. The grain sorghum (cv. AG-1040) was sown after the harvest of soybeans. The residual activity of these herbicides was determined by bioassay, using the same sorghum cultivars evaluated in the field during the period from 0 to 200days after application the treatments. The sorghum crop showed high sensitivity to residual activity of the herbicide sulfentrazone, diclosulam and imazethapyr dose of 0,100 kg ha, even when grown after soybean harvest. Furthermore, the residual activity of sulfentrazone exceeded the range of assessment of bioassay, and more than 200 days.
LIMA, M.D.B.; BÜLL, L.T.; GRASSI FILHO, H. PHYSIOLOGICAL INDICIES AND NUTRIENT ABSORPTION OF ONION CULTURE UNDER SALINITY AND HYDRIC STRESS CONDITIONS 2 ABSTRACT Salinity affects production of agricultural crops worldwide, including areas in the northeast of Brazil, and it is a main crop productivity-limiting factor. This experiment aimed to evaluate the effects of different levels of soil salinity and moisture on some physiological indices and nutrient absorption of onion (Allium cepa L), cv Baia periforme. Forty-five 10-liter plastic pots with sandy soil, which had been added with NaCl, in sufficient amount to achieve electrical conductivity levels close to 0, 2, 4, 6 and 8 dS m-1 , were used in a greenhouse. Each pot received15.2 g of thermo phosphate enriched with micronutrients and1.5 L of organic matter. The amount of irrigation water added to each treatment was adequate to maintain the soil in the limits of 25-50, 50-75 and 75-100 % of field Capacity. Relative water content (RWC), refratometrical index, chlorophyll content in leaves and proline content and soluble solids in the bulb were evaluated. Analysis of nutrient absorption, as sodium, magnesium, potassium and calcium, were carried out. From obtained results, it was concluded that the increase of NaCl concentration in the soil reduced water content and chlorophyll in the leaves, weight of dry matter, aerial part and bulb of onion plants, besides reducing magnesium and potassium and increasing sodium in the leaves of onion. Substratum humidity did not have a significant effect on none of the studied variables. KEYWORDS: Allium cepa, mineral composition, salinity.
SEED GERMINATION OF PEA (Pisum Sativum, L) UNDER DIFFERENT BORON CONCENTRATION LEVELS Maria Dolores Barbosa LimaEscola Superior de Ciências Agrárias de Rio Verde - ESUCARVCampus Universitário - Caixa Postal 10475901-970 - Rio Verde , Goiás 1 ABSTRACT This experiment attempted to establish the effect of irrigation with water containing different concentration of boron on the germination of pea (Pisum sativum L.), selected as a typical example of dicotyledon plants. 25 seeds were planted in aluminum trays bedded with a layer of cotton of a depth 1 cm, as a germination medium. The media was wetted to saturation with waters of varying boron concentration starting from zero B level (control treatment) up to the highest concentration of 20 (mg.dm-3) B. Germination of peas was not affected by boron concentrations up to 8 (mg.dm-3), and only slightly reduced as 20 (mg.dm-3). Once germinated, the seedling were smaller, took longer to develop and already showed toxicity symptoms when boron was applied in large doses. Hence, large amounts of boron seem to have little influence on germination, but distinct negative effects on the development of plants at the seedling stage. Keywords: irrigation, germination, boron, pea.
