AbstractThis work presents a mental health intervention aiming at providing emotional support of the population of Peralillo and its surroundings, due to the earthquake that occurred in Chile on February, 2010. The goals were to implement prevention and emotional contention based on the contact with the local community network. The design included 24 volunteers affiliated to the School of Psychology (Usach), which participated in 14 visits to the area. The realm of the experience was radial and with a domino effect. 201 people were attended individually, 21 groups of emotional support were implemented (reaching 332 persons), in addition to other activities with health workers, prevention and education through the local radio, public spaces, waiting rooms, and door to door interventions in 36 homes. After concluding the intervention, the experience is regarded successful in terms of the radial coordination with the Public Health networks to face the emergency. Nevertheless, it is also necessary to consider the continuity of the disaster since strong aftershocks are still affecting the area. A new challenge to the clinical discipline will be to attend formative needs in the curricula to face future natural disasters based on this experience. participación voluntaria y oportuna en la experiencia práctica que aquí se relata. Introduction: This paper analyses the relationship between the strategies and styles used by parents to deal with teenagers children showing early symptoms of a psychotic condition and these youngsters adherence to treatment. Methods: This is a co-relational study based on a sample built on probabilistic, random basis and made up by 23 youngsters accompanied by one of their parents. These youngsters are all being treated in one of the psychiatric units of the Chilean public health service. Results: The results indicate that parents, by and large, use an active method, trying to control emotions and setting in motion cognitive activity. The study shows that the group adhering to treatment presents significantly higher scores, in statistical terms, in favour of a planning strategy. On the other hand, the group with no adherence to treatment presents a higher score in favour of an avoid-to-face strategy. Conclusion: Parents, by and large, use an active method, with analytical and rational activity correlated to the adherence of the youngsters to treatment.
AbstractResearch is done regarding evaluation instruments and training programs of social cognition in benefit of the rehabilitation processes of patients with schizophrenia. The PRiSM methodology is used, reviewing the Scopus, ISI and ApaPsycNet journals databases, between 2010 and 2017, considering as inclusion criteria pieces of research where instruments with evaluative purposes and rehabilitation programs of the different sub-domains of social cognition for people with schizophrenia are used. 290 articles are found, and 195 which are thoroughly examined, are selected. A summary of 37 instruments is established, and 10 rehabilitation programs of social cognition are described. It is concluded that it is necessary to explicitly state in the literature the properties, reliability and validity of the tests used, so as to measure what is intended to be measured. Also, it is important to describe the programs used in benefit of the social cognition rehabilitation of the patient with schizophrenia.
