For many years, the so-called "Newton's disc" has been used in optical teaching in an attempt to illustrate the human eye's mechanism of spectral perception of visible light. His proposal is, when rotated, appears to be white, which is the sum of all colors of the spectrum printed on it. In fact, the resulting color we see is a shade of gray, as in that case there is a subtractive synthesis. The purpose of this work is to build a disc, such as Newton's one, in which we can compose through colored LEDs not only white color, as also yellow, cyan and magenta. This time, colors are generated by additive synthesis based on the Young-Helmholtz trichromatic theory. Keywords: Newton's disk, LED, Young-Helmholtz. No entanto...
This work presents an experiment that seeks to simulate human color vision through electronic components in an attempt to build, together with the students, a cybernetic 'eye'. The limitation of the cybernetic eye developed here in relation to the standard human chromatic vision, which makes it a 'colorblind eye', is an argument to be explored by the teacher to discuss this predominantly genetic anomaly, raising awareness and discussing the need for public policies aimed at the inclusion of colorblind individuals. It can also be treated as an interdisciplinary manner, bringing physics and biology closer together. Using inexpensive, easy-to-purchase electronic components, the experiment produces data that, when treated, highlight the possibility of using the RGB LED as a light receiver, as well as its limitations for discerning colors.
Understanding the color vision mechanism, in high school in particular, is important in the formation of a person able to follows imaging technologies, which also helps to understand how he perceives the natural world colors. Based on Young-Helmholtz trichromatic theory and making use of a tri-color RGB LED, with relatively low cost assembly, it has been developed an apparatus that enables the teacher to show how colors can be added to compose other ones, i.e. additive synthesis. Keywords: chromatic vision, LED, Young-Helmholtz.
