Damage caused by South American Fruit Fly in grapes cultivars AbstractThe South American Fruit Fly, Anastrepha fraterculus (Wiedemann) (Diptera: Tephritidae), is a major pest of fruit production in Brazil. This study was conducted to evaluate the stages of berry susceptibility and injuries caused by the fruit flies in different grape cultivars. The work was conducted in the field with 'Cabernet Sauvignon', 'Moscato Embrapa' and 'Isabel' cultivars, located in Bento Gonçalves, RS, in 2006 and 2007. Two couples of A. fraterculus were confined in grape bunchs in different phenological stages: berries pea-size, berries still hard and green, berries begin to colour and enlarge, and berries harvest-ripe. Significative berry dropping was recorded in 'Cabernet Sauvignon' cultivar when injured by A. fraterculus in the stages of berries pea-size and berries still hard and green; stage of berries pea-size in 'Moscato Embrapa' and stages of berries pea-size, berries still hard and green, berries begin to colour and enlarge in 'Isabel' cultivar. Deformation in berries was recorded when infestations were done in phases berries pea-size and berries still hard and green of 'Cabernet Sauvignon', 'Moscato Embrapa' and 'Isabel' cultivars. There was development of larvae to the pupa stage in 'Moscato Embrapa' cultivar.

ABSTRACT ADAPTATION OF AN ARTIFICIAL DIET FOR THE BIOTYPES "CORN" AND "RICE" OF SPODOPTERA FRUGIPERDA (LEPIDOPTERA: NOCTUIDAE)Spodoptera frugiperda is considered one of the main pest in corn and irrigated rice (fall armyworm) crops, causing high leaf losses. The objective of this study was to obtain an appropriate artificial diet to rear the biotypes "corn" and "rice" of S. frugiperda in laboratory. The insects were collected in areas cultivated with corn and irrigated rice in the meadow ecosystem and the identification was accomplished by the analysis of the DNA genomic. The development of the two biotypes was accompanied on Greene's diet and the same diet modified to 25 ± 1ºC, UR of 70 10% and fotofase of 14 hours. The study was accomplished with 150 larvae by diet individualized in glass tubes containing artificial diet. At emergency 20 couples were individualized and fed with aqueous solution of honey to 10%. The Greene diet made possible better development of the two biotypes, providing larger development speed, larger weight of larvae in the maximum development, weight of pupas and total fecundity, besides higher values of the net reproductive rates, intrinsic and finite rates of increase.
To verify the potential of parasitism were offered 40 eggs of both hosts per parasitoid. In greenhouse, a study was conducted to determine the optimal number of parasitoids to be released by egg of H. zea. It was established 60 eggs of H. zea and varied the number of parasitoids. In the field were evaluated of parasitism with the release of 100, 200, 400 and 800 thousand parasitoids per hectare, chemical control and treatment without released and insecticide. In the biology study, the duration of egg – adult period and sex ratio of parasitoids were similar in the two hosts. The number of parasitoids generated per egg of A. kuehniella and H. zea varied from 1.10 to 1.20 and from 2.22 to 2.67, respectively. The capacity of parasitism of T. pretiosum female was 93.70 and 82.75 eggs of A. kuehniella and H. zea, respectively. In greenhouse, the percentage of parasitism of T. pretiosum had established when released 5.33 parasitoids per egg of H. zea. In field, the greater efficiency of control occurred where released 100 thousand parasitoids per hectare in four seasons from the observation of early infestation of H. zea.
