En zonas sísmicas existen muchas construcciones diseñadas y construidas con reglamentos antiguos o sin ellos, las cuales podrían ser vulnerables frente a terremotos destructivos. En este trabajo se consideran en especial los edificios escolares, dada la importante función que cumplen. Para estas construcciones consideradas en forma individual es necesario contar con un protocolo para conocer su nivel de vulnerabilidad y, si fuera necesario, estrategias admisibles de refuerzo. Por ello, este trabajo tiene por objeto analizar el proceso de evaluación de un edificio escolar particular ubicado en una zona de alta peligrosidad sísmica de Argentina, y el diseño de las estrategias para su refuerzo, según prescripciones del reglamento nacional y americano. Luego de la introducción se describen las características del edificio seleccionado, y se detalla el procedimiento de evaluación seguido, así como los resultados obtenidos en esta etapa. Se discuten también las especificaciones que al respecto se plantean en los reglamentos de los dos países seleccionados. Los resultados de esta evaluación sirven de base para diseñar estrategias de refuerzo, que también son explicadas en el trabajo. A la luz del ejemplo considerado, y de las prescripciones reglamentarias analizadas, se destacan en las conclusiones las partes del proceso evaluación -refuerzo, y se plantea la necesidad de actualizar las recomendaciones en el reglamento argentino.
Se implementó divisores de potencia, multiplicadores de frecuencia y antenas logarítmicas en las bandas X y Ku, con los cuales se realizó la comparativa entre los equipos implementados versus los del fabricante. Para la elaboración de los dispositivos se utilizó la metodología de diseño de tecnología microstrip haciendo uso del software Ansoft Dessigner y para la implementación se usaron dos sustratos diferentes, los cuales son; FR4 y Roger RT Duroid 5880. Además, se hizo uso de un analizador de redes vectoriales para obtener los resultados de transmisión y reflexión, mientras que, para obtener resultados aplicativos, se hace uso de un generador de señales y un analizador de espectro. Los dispositivos implementados con sustrato Roger presentaron mejores prestaciones al compararlo con los del fabricante, sin embargo, el sustrato FR4 no presenta características favorables.
La problemática de las edificaciones existentes y cuya construcción data con anterioridad a la década de los ’70 es una realidad de la cual, inexorablemente, no se puede desestimar debido a la peligrosidad que esto implica por la imprevisión en los diseños sismorresistentes.Toda la Provincia de Mendoza, Argentina, está ubicada en una región de elevado nivel de peligro sísmico. El Gran Mendoza ha experimentado intensidades sísmicas iguales o superiores a VI M.M. por lo menos once veces en los últimos 200 años.El caso de estudio corresponde a un edificio existente ubicado en el microcentro de la ciudad de Mendoza. El mismo fue construido en la década de los ’50 y dada la necesidad de su refuncionalización, se encomendó el estudio para evaluar el estado de conservación así como también la adecuación al código sismorresistente actualmente vigente en la jurisdicción de competencia.El estudio permitió establecer la necesidad de plantear un sistema integral de refuerzo estructural debido no sólo al estado de fisuración de los muros de mampostería presentes y/o al incompleto encadenamiento, sino también a la escasez de planos sismorresistentes necesarios para satisfacer la eventual demanda impuesta por el terremoto de diseño.Se tuvo en cuenta el capítulo 8 del Código de Construcciones Sismorresistentes para la Provincia de Mendoza de 1987, donde se establecen las pautas a seguir sobre las construcciones existentes que son motivo de reformas.En la propuesta de recuperación estructural se consideró el uso de pórticos metálicos arriostrados excéntricamente, los cuales presentan importantes bondades frente a otros tipos de sistemas estructurales, tales como un bajo costo de inversión, rapidez en las tareas de rehabilitación y mano de obra no especializada
