Uno de los aspectos de mayor importancia en cuanto a la calidad de la energía suministrada dentro de un sistema eléctrico de potencia, es el control de la frecuencia. El sistema eléctrico del Ecuador cuenta con un control automático de generación (AGC por sus siglas en inglés) que permite el control automático de dicho parámetro.
Para determinar las reservas de potencia activa necesarias para los controles primario y secundario de la frecuencia, de manera que se minimicen los recursos energéticos necesarios para dicho fin, se deben tener en cuenta las características del sistema eléctrico como; por ejemplo, el estatismo de la carga y la respuesta dinámica de las unidades de generación.
El presente artículo expone un método para determinar los márgenes de reserva de potencia activa necesarios para el control primario y secundario de la frecuencia en base a un procedimiento de caracterización de la carga del Sistema Nacional Interconectado (SNI) ecuatoriano.
