Background:In Ayurveda, majority of skin diseases have been mentioned under the umbrella of Kushtha and in other words, it can be listed as “Ayurvedic dermatology.” Among them, Vicharchika (eczema) included under Kshudra Kushtha, has been mentioned as curable disease, but due to relapsing nature of the disease and hazardous side effects of the modern drugs, it is difficult to manage. Ayurveda classics described a number of formulations to combat Kushtha (skin diseases) which offers effective remedy for eczema. Therefore, the attempt was done to assess the effect of Nitya Virechana (regular purgation) along with local application in its management.Aim and Objective:The aim of this study is to compare the efficacy of Trivritta powder along with Aragvadha Patra Lepa (paste) and Aragvadha Patra Lepa (paste) alone as local application in the management of Vicharchika (eczema).Materials and Methods:A total of 63 patients of Vicharchika (eczema) were selected and allocated in 2 groups, out of which 60 patients (30 patients each) completed the trial treatment. Group A received Trivritta powder (Operculina turpethum Linn.) along with local application of paste of leaves of Aragvadha (Cassia fistula Linn.) and group B received local application of Aragvadha Patra Lepa (paste) for the duration of 4 weeks.Results:All calculations were calculated through ’Graph Pad In Stat 3’ software. Nitya Virechana (regular purgation) by Trivritta along with Aragvadha Patra Lepa (group A) proved more effective to control itching, discharge, burning sensation, eruption, discoloration, pain and edema of cases of Vicharchika.Conclusion:Treatment with Trivritta (Operculina turpethum Linn.) along with local application of paste of Aragvadha Patra Lepa is effective in reducing the symptoms of Vicharchika Kushtha (eczema).
In day to day life, person consumes an incompatible diet and faulty food habits which leads to most of the diseases, among which skin disorders are prime. According to Āyurveda Viruddha Āhāra (incompatible diet) is one of the main etiological factor for all types of Kuṣṭha (skin disease). To conduct a survey study on specific types of Viruddha Āhāra in Kuṣṭha. A survey study of total 503 Kuṣṭha (skin disease) patients was conducted at NIA O.P.D., I.P.D., various camps in Jaipur and certain junk food outlets. Patients were screened on the basis of specially prepared questionnaires. On survey study, maximum numbers of Kuṣṭha patients were consuming Viruddha Āhāra. 76.73% were taking Saṁyoga Viruddha and Virya Viruddha while 62.82% patients were taking Krama Viruddha. Mātrā Viruddha was practicing by 44.33% patients followed by 43.14% patients were taking Saṁskāra Viruddha. Remaining 14.11% patients were consuming Avasthā Viruddha. Maximum prevalence of Viruddha Āhāra was found in skin disease patients. So it was concluded that as mentioned in Āyurvedika classics, Viruddha Āhāra (incompatible diet) is potent cause in Kuṣṭha (skin disease).

Yuvanapidaka (Acne vulgaris) is one of the common skin disease which is affected by faulty dietary intake.Aims and Objective: To conduct a survey study on faulty dietary habits in Acne vulgaris patients and to find out cause-effect relationship between them.Materials and Methods: Total 210 patients having signs and symptoms of Acne vulgaris were selected from NIA O.P.D., I.P.D., various camps in Jaipur & certain junk food outlets. Patients were screened on the basis of specially prepared questionnaires.Results: On survey study, 100% patients were consuming Junk food & dairy products & incompatible diet. Maximum no. of patients was taking high glycemic index diets which play an important role in aggravation of acne.Conclusion: Maximum prevalence of faulty dietary habits was found in patients. So it was concluded that dairy products, incompatible diets, high glycemic index diet, junk foods which is responsible for formation of acne vulgaris.Â
A number of endemic communicable diseases present a serious public health hazard in India. India is going through a period of transition, both epidemiological and demographic transition. The expectancy of life has increased, with consequent rise in degenerative diseases of aging and life-styles. Nevertheless, communicable diseases are still dominant and constitute major public health issues. Due to low socio economical standard, poor hygienic conditions and population explosion, communicable diseases have become a serious threat to the society in our developing country. Rasayana therapy is particularly helpful in management of such a disorder where immunity and infections are playing central role. As per Ayurvedic principles immunity of a person can be enhanced by use of proper diet and lifestyle along with a proper use of Rasayana. Rasayana is actually that which increases the essence of each Dhatu starting from Rasa. Taking Rasayana is helpful to increase the immunity of person to keep him away from communicable diseases. They are of two types Urjaskara (enhance the general immunity) and Roganuta (used in specific disease conditions). There are many Rasayanas used to improve the immunity and cure diseases like Shilajatu Rasayana for Prameha, Lauha in Pandu, Amalaki, Haridra, Chyavanprash etc.
Eczema is an inflammatory condition of the skin characterised by groups of vesicular lesions with a variable degree of exudates and scaling. This condition is comparable with Vicarcikā Kuṣṭha in Āyurvedika system of medicine.
