Mobile platforms and applications are an exciting and important phenomenon in today's software and business world. They are being woven into the fabric of daily life faster than expected. Continuous collection of user feedback enabling the improvement of platforms and applications becomes critical to support the continuous evolution of mobile systems. Particularly user feed-back is needed to provide systems that best fit user needs. We have designed a mobile feedback approach, which enables users to document individual feedback on mobile systems in situ. This information can then be evaluated and used as new requirements by developers. Based on this solution we have developed a feed-back app for two different mobile platforms. Furthermore, we have conducted a study with smartphone users applying this ap-proach and communicating feedback on a mobile platform and pre-installed apps. The study revealed that users were able to give individual feedback and that a large amount of this feedback was considered to be useful for mobile system improvement by a platform developer. The design of interactive systems to be used in mobile and pervasive scenarios, such as emergency management, requires novel methodologies which combine user-centred design approaches and software engineering approaches tailored for distributed architectures. In this paper, the methodology adopted in a successful research project is presented together with a case study.
In complex emergency/disaster scenarios, teams from various emergency-response organizations collaborate in order to achieve a common goal. The use of smart mobile devices and applications in these scenarios can improve this collaboration dynamically; and poses interesting challenges, such as user' mental attention, small screen size, unavailability of reliable network, reduced power, and battery consumption. So, to design and develop interactive applications to be used in mobile and pervasive scenarios requires novel methodologies which combine user-centred design approaches and software engineering approaches tailed for distributed architectures. In this paper, we outline the methodology, adopted successfully in the European WORKPAD project, and describe the work done from getting the requirements to developing the interface of the desired system
Mobile devices such as Smartphones and InternetTablets have become an integral part of our life. We can install applications providing various functionalities. Our research focuses on an application which enables end-users to blog requirements in situ. The gathered end-user needs can be seen as a starting point for the development of applications and the evolution of mobile platforms.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
