The climate of Minas Gerais state, Brazil, is described by the association of tropical and extratropical phenomena which determine two seasons: dry and wet. This association is known as South Atlantic Convergence Zone -ZCAS causing intense, continuous rain, which can last several days. This paper describes the ZCAS and its effects over Minas Gerais. It also indicates a parallel between this climatological feature and the description of the Climate of southeastern Brazil, by Edmon Nimer, an well known climatologist by Brazilian Geographers.
