O objetivo deste estudo foi caracterizar a biomassa, o carvão vegetal e briquetes da madeira de Khaya ivorensis (Mogno africano) de plantação com 7 anos de idade. Cinco árvores de Mogno africano foram selecionadas e discos de madeira cortados em diferentes posições longitudinais no tronco (0, DAP, 25, 50, 75 e 100% da altura comercial). Parte dos discos foram triturados e moídos para a formação de uma amostra composta com todas as posições longitudinais, a fim de: (i) caracterizar a biomassa (densidade básica e energética, análise imediata e poder calorífico supeior); e (ii) produzir e caracterizar os briquetes (densidade aparente e energética, expansão volumétrica e resistência mecânica). Os discos cortados na altura do DAP foram utilizados para a produção de carvão vegetal para posterior caracterização (densidade relativa aparente e energética, análise imediata, poder calorífico supeior e rendimento gravimétrico). As características da biomassa e do carvão vegetal de K. ivorensis, indicaram parâmetros de qualidade inferiores aos de outras espécies florestais, com a mesma idade, usadas para fins energéticos. A carbonização da biomassa reduziu a densidade e o teor de materiais voláteis e aumentou os teores de carbono fixo e cinzas, o poder calorífico supeior e a densidade energética. A compactação da biomassa melhorou suas características energéticas e físico-mecânicas e é a forma tecnicamente viável para o uso energético da madeira de K. ivorensis, de 7 anos de idade.
