Este trabalho parte da pesquisa de campo, realizada de 2017 a 2018, e analisa as agências e os processos de construção da identidade indígena de quatro mulheres que vivem no Rio de Janeiro. Investigam-se os pontos convergentes em suas buscas pelas “raízes” indígenas, onde elas compreendem a identidade étnica enquanto potencialidade a ser descoberta e retomada. Observa-se como processos de subjetivação retrabalham histórias de familiares e experiências pessoais e coletivas, operadas enquanto memória, para produzir certos tipos de agência e autoafirmação. Analisam-se também os processos de discriminação e invisibilização que tais mulheres experienciam na cidade e enfatizam-se as agências que emergem como respostas a essas violências. Ser indígena é pensado enquanto experiência urbana possível, e não antagônico a essa experiência. A identidade indígena afirmada na cidade é encarada como uma postura política de disputa por novas epistemologias e modos de ser na cidade, tensionando modos de vida dominantes.
