Como um de seus resultados, pode-se observar um processo de verticalização das construções e uma redução significativa em áreas construídas per capita. Grande parte da população opta por uma unidade de habitação compacta, buscando uma boa localização com infraestrutura e serviços que podem aumentar a qualidade de vida. Esta verticalização pode aumentar a compacidade das unidades habitacionais e otimizar os custos, mas também pode reduzir a funcionalidade arquitetônica. Nesse contexto, o índice de compacidade é permite avaliar quanto o projeto de um espaço pode estar próximo do perímetro econômico determinado por suas paredes externas. Este trabalho procura mostrar que a compacidade deve ser analisada de forma tridimensional, uma vez que determina o desempenho do espaço interno, estabelecendo um método para determinar o índice de compacidade espacial. Os resultados mostram que espaços pequenos e compactos tendem a induzir conflitos de uso, requerendo um projeto detalhado que permita adaptar usos diferentes e simultâneos às novas necessidades e perfis dos usuários contemporâneos. ABSTRACT The number of high buildings has increased in large urban centers, accentuating the density and the urban character that configure the majority of the world population, United Nations (2015). As one of its results, it can be seen a verticalization process of buildings and a significant reduction in per capita constructed areas. Much of the population opts for a compact housing unit, seeking a good location with infrastructure and services that can increase the quality of life. This verticalization process can increase the compactness of the housing units and optimize costs
