Iniciativa voltada aos jovens brasileiros mais conhecida pela população, o Programa Nacional de Inclusão de Jovens-ProJovem Urbano foi instituído em 2005, em caráter emergencial e experimental, como uma das ações implantadas pelo governo federal para a conformação de uma Política Nacional de Juventude. Em 2012, após sete anos sob gestão da Secretaria Nacional de Juventude, passou à coordenação do Ministério da Educação, incorporando-se à área da educação de jovens e adultos. Nesse contexto, tornase fundamental conhecer os educadores que, até então, nele atuaram: quem são? Que aape epaa Quem são esses novos atores da EJA? DOSSIE EJA II 2 diferenças existem entre eles e os demais docentes? Quais as proximidades e os afastamentos em relação a outras experiências? Buscando responder a tais questões, este estudo tem por base dados coletados em 2009, em 11 estados, com uma amostra de 419 educadores. Dentre seus achados, destaca-se o fato de, em sua quase totalidade (97,8%), possuírem ensino superior. Além disso, 64,9% cursaram alguma pós-graduação. Considerando que 74,9% lecionam há menos de 10 anos, tem-se um quadro docente qualitativamente mais apurado que aquele historicamente vinculado a essa modalidade educacional. Para tanto, as condições de implantação do Programa, quanto à seleção e à preparação dos professores, podem representar diferencial significativo. Saber mais sobre esses sujeitos constitui caminho para o entendimento de importantes aspectos da empreitada desenvolvida pelo governo quando da criação do ProJovem, podendo oferecer subsídios para a qualificação e/ou redefinição do Programa, hoje uma das principais políticas públicas de EJA do país.
