Ha via a preocupação de estabelecer, entre nós, a sociologia e a antropologia como disciplinas científicas autônomas e rigoro sas, afastando-se tudo o que se considera va "impressionista" na discussão meto dológica, tudo o que pudesse parecer me nos técnico . Havia um esforço decidido para transformar as ciências sociais no Brasil em um saber positivo, desprezando-se seus aspectos humanísti cos. Esta orientação definiu-se como críti ca à "cultura de bacharel", encarada com desconfiança, vista como retórica, super ficial, bombástica, burocrática. Suponha mos que assim fosse: em vez de se procu rar corrigir as superficialidades ou lacu nas dessa vertente do saber, o que se fez foi desvalorizá-la e eliminá-la dos quadros acadêmicos. Por isto mesmo, os argumen tos acima, hoje, me soam algo duvidosos, menos determinados pelo caráter dos co nhecimentos em causa, que pelo interesse em anulá-los .Duas premissas parecem ter conduzi do a essa orientação. Primeiro, a própria criação da Faculdade, o modo como foi implantl\Pa. A tradição francesa, com seu racionalismo de um lado, e seu positivis mo de outro, veio ao encontro das tendên cias autoritárias do setor liberal paulista. Nem foi por outro motivo que o grupo de O Estado de S. Pa ulo, ligado ao organi cismo e ao evolucionismo, empenhou-se em trazer a missão de jovens "agregés" . Vindo com eles, o cientificismo passou pelas senhoras diletantes, como salienta Levi-Strauss sem dar-se conta de que isto não acontecia por acaso e do quanto o sa ber formal e abstrato de que era portador vinculava-se à burguesia que o festejava.
