This study aims to analyze community participation in Community based Tourism -CBT from Bordenave Participation typology (1994) and Tosun typology (2000). For this purpose, primary and secondary data of 05 community tourism experiences were analyzed, namely: Batoque; Balbino; Jenipapo Kanindé; Ponta Grossa; and Fundação Casa Grande: Memorial Homem do Kariri. It emphasizes that all cases are located in the state of Ceará, northeastern Brazil. The methodological procedures of this work included the collection of documentary form data, direct observation and semi-structured interviews. Data analysis occurred from the interview transcript and exploitation of the material collected in 04 categories of analysis: destination features; development of CBT in the community; destination management process; distribution of benefits. The main survey results reveal that from the 05 communities, in 04 of them is there a participatory development model, where those involved since its inception's process are community's members. The other community investigated present a model incorporating CBT based on induction by means of external agents.
