Investigamos neste trabalho o processo de aquisição, por surdos, da categoria preposicional do português escrito, considerando a língua brasileira de sinais (libras), na modalidade falada, como a primeira língua (L1) dos surdos e a língua portuguesa como sua segunda língua (L2). Conduzimos nossas investigações a partir de três hipóteses: (1) assumimos o que defende Kato (2005), de acordo com quem o processo de aquisição da escrita é um processo de segunda ordem, semelhante ao processo de aquisição de uma segunda língua; (2) com base na ideia de que o input para a aquisição da linguagem se caracteriza pela sua capacidade de funcionar como um gatilho (trigger), que dispara o processo de marcação paramétrica, devido ao fator robustez baseado na frequência e saliência do dado no input (LIGHTFOOT, 1991), formulamos a hipótese de que os traços funcionais são os traços salientes para aquisição da categoria das preposições do português por surdos, sendo o traço de caso genitivo o mais relevante nesse processo; e (3)assumimos a hipótese de Lessa-de-Oliveira (2009), de acordo com quem, no processo de aquisição de uma língua oral, em modalidade escrita, por surdos que não tiveram acesso à modalidade falada dessa língua, esses indivíduos usam como via de acesso à GU a modalidade falada que adquiriram – a fala da língua de sinais. Para a análise dos dados e discussão dos fatos investigados, apoiamos nosso estudo teoricamente na Gramática Gerativa e na proposta inatista de aquisição da linguagem, estudos desenvolvidos por Chomsky (1965, 1970, 1981,1995) e estudos subsequentes. O corpus desta pesquisa se constitui de amostras de produções escritas por surdos, bem como da fala natural em libras, coletadas através de nove sujeitos-informantes surdos, jovens e adultos, estudantes do Ensino Fundamental, Médio e Superior. Para a transcrição dos dados da libras, utilizamos o Sistema de Escrita para Língua de Sinais – SEL, desenvolvido por Lessa-de-Oliveira (2012). A análise dos dados de interlíngua escrita produzidos pelos surdos informantes da pesquisa nos levou a resultados que mostram que esses sujeitos-informantes, independentemente do grau de escolaridade, ainda apresentam grande dificuldade em reconhecer em que posições devem ocorrer preposições, embora possamos dizer que o processo de aquisição da categoria das preposições do português se deu ou está em curso, em certo grau, para a maioria dos sujeitos-informantes investigados. Em análise quantitativa e qualitativa chegamos a resultados que mostram que a posição funcional de complemento genitivo (CG) e complemento nominal oblíquo (CNO) foram as que mais se mostraram propícias à ocorrência de um sintagma preposicional (PP) nos dados da interlíngua; e essa produtividade razoável de PPs em CGs e CNOs nos dados se deve, em grande parte, à preposição ‘de’ que, de longe, é a que encontra mais posições que lhe são compatíveis e a que apresenta maiores índices de ocorrências convergentes. Procurando compreender os dados a partir da ótica da robustez no input, concluímos que os surdos pesquisados já começaram a internalizar o valor paramétrico que define que, em português, complementos nominais são PPs, devido a maior robustez desses no input. E, sabendo que as preposições em CGs e CNOs ocorrem como atribuidoras de Caso, podemos dizer que o traço funcional de Caso é saliente no processo de aquisição da categoria preposicional, destacando-se os Casos genitivo e oblíquo em complementos nominais. Por fim, na investigação da presença dos parâmetros gramaticais da libras e do português na interlíngua, pudemos verificar que a interlíngua dos surdos aqui pesquisados apresenta-se fortemente permeada por aspectos da libras, em sua maioria sintáticos, e aspectos do português, em sua maioria lexicais.
