O transtorno do Espectro Autista (TEA) é classificado como um disturbio que atinge o neurodesenvolvimento do paciente e equaliza as incidências de deficites afetando a qualidade de vida do paciente e sua interação com ambiente social, e também ocasiona exigências no tratao alimentar o que pode aumentar a ocorrência de cáries e outros reflexos negativos na sáude bucal deste paciente. O objetivo é analisar a abordagem realizada no atendimento odontológico direcionado aos pacietnes com transtono do espectro autista, de modo a destacar as principais dificuldades e formas de tratamento que devem ser direcionados a estes pacientes. A busca de estudos realizou-se nas bases de dados NCBI/PubMed (National Center for BiotechnologyInformation), SciELO (Scientific Eletronic Lirary Online), Google Acadêmico e Lilacs - Bireme (Literatura Latino-Americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde). Para delimitação dos conteúdos foram utilizados critérios de inclusão: artigos disponíveis na integra, em português, inglês e espanhol, publicados entre os anos de 2019 a 2021 com acesso gratuito e que tivessem pertinência com tema. O paciente autista tem as mesmas características orais dos pacientes não autistas, mas devido às limitações da doença e negligência dos pais, a cavidade oral tem maior probabilidade de sofrer de cárie dentária e outras doenças. Nesse sentido, a ligação entre pais e dentistas é muito importante para prevenir problemas de saúde bucal, pois é difícil para os pais realizarem uma higiene bucal eficaz em seus filhos com autismo, e poucos profissionais receberam treinamento. O cirurgião-dentista deve atuar como interventor na saúde bucal do paciente e estabelecer uma relação de confiança com os pais do pacientes, aplicando abordagens inclusivas de atendimento e promovendo a saúde bucal.
