O carcinoma da mucosa do palato mole e orofaringe, frequentemente possui diagnóstico tardio. O tamanho do tumor é tipicamente maior do que o dos carcinomas localizados mais anteriormente como em região de lábio, língua e rebordo alveolar. Como regra geral, quanto mais posterior ou inferior for a localização do tumor orofaríngeo, maiores são a lesão e a chance de disseminação. Este trabalho tem por objetivo relatar o caso de paciente melanoderma, gênero masculino, 68 anos, que compareceu à Policlínica Odontológica da UEA com a queixa de “rosto inchado” com três meses de evolução. Durante a anamnese, relatou morar no município de Anori, com histórico de tabagismo e etilismo. Ao exame clínico, observou-se lesão de aspecto verrucoso, com áreas endofíticas, leucoeritroplásica e extensas áreas de necrose, localizada na região do palato mole invadindo a orofaringe. A amostra colhida foi enviada para avaliação histopatológica no Serviço de Patologia Oral e Maxilofacial da Universidade do Estado do Amazonas (SEPAT/UEA) que confirmou a hipótese diagnóstica de Carcinoma Espinocelular bem diferenciado. Após a confirmação do diagnóstico, o paciente foi encaminhado para a Fundação Centro de Controle de Oncologia do Estado do Amazonas (FCECON-AM) onde foi a óbito antes do início do tratamento.
