Introducción: El simulador clínico, específicamente paciente simulado, genera un aprendizaje significativo y un acercamiento a la realidad, preparando al estudiante de licenciatura para un mejor desempeño y calidad en el cuidado. Objetivo: Evaluar la influencia del uso del paciente simulado para obtener un aprendizaje significativo del contenido procedimental “curaciones” y cómo este aprendizaje ha sido usado en la práctica clínica. Materiales y métodos: Se diseñó un estudio cuantitativo, cuasiexperimental comparativo. El uso del paciente simulado se implementó en un grupo de 60 alumnos del primer año de la licenciatura en enfermería; mientras que, en otro grupo, también de 60 alumnos se utilizó la enseñanza tradicional. Posteriormente, en la práctica clínica se evalúo la ejecución del procedimiento ante paciente real en ambos grupos. Resultados: Con respecto a la percepción del estudiante, se encontró que ambos grupos informaron la importancia del uso de estrategias de instrucción específicas como la simulación. Hubo diferencias significativas entre los grupos en el nivel de conocimiento, las habilidades y la ejecución del procedimiento. La ejecución mejoró en el grupo con intervención. Conclusiones: Los alumnos perciben la diferencia entre los dos métodos. Sin embargo, refieren que es mejor continuar con la enseñanza por repetición (tradicional). Menosprecian capacidades adquiridas en la práctica análoga, en especial la realizada por simuladores. Sin embargo, al momento de enfrentarse a la atención del paciente real, aquellos que usaron el simulador realizan mejor los procedimientos.
