This paper is focused on LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) of specific product based on lime used in Portugal how a more sustainable solution for building construction. This product is decorative mineral render based on lime used as final layer to an External Thermal Insulation Composite System (ETICS) based on cork boards (ICB). The case under study presents as differentials the use of cork, a natural product that has Portugal as the largest supplier in the world and mortars with a greater amount of lime and less use of cement. This is an attempt to reduce the ecological footprint by the manufacturer. In this way, this article analyses the data provided in the Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) by the manufacturer, trying to establish a comparative impact reduction with other similar products.
Abstract:The parametric method for decision aid is used to choice the best alternative in design. The method considerate criteria's like duties and desires. This paper presents an adaptation of the referred method for application in design courses TCCs. The case study was accomplished in the Industrial Design course of UNIVALI. The resulting method of this study was tested in the design experimental of an machine for butcher shops.
ABSTRACTSustainability in construction can be evaluated in diferent aspects, varying according to the authors. Some usual aspects, for example, are the social, environmental and economic ones. Despite the importance of sustainability, many construction companies have not adopted practices to solve the problems generated by their activities. BIM technology (Building Information Modelling) emerges in the sector as an important tool integrating the life cycle of a buildings and the evaluation of sustainability. The objective of this paper is to clarify the contribution of BIM technology to evaluate the economic sustainability of buildings. The MASP-HIS methodology authored by Carvalho (2009) will be used to determine which parameters should be evaluated in this study. It is intended to present bibliographies that allow evaluating the economic sustainability of an enterprise using BIM tools, according to deinitions of MASP-HIS methodology. This knowledge is important because addresses the use of BIM to obtain more sustainable buildings, as well as to meet the expectation of the construction market.
