El tema de cambio climático, se ha vuelto un tópico de relevancia en México y en el mundo, debido a que sus impactos se dan en los ámbitos ambientales, sociales, económicos, políticos, culturales etc., sin embargo, no serán iguales en ninguna región ni localidad del planeta y por lo tanto, tampoco serán estas, igual para ninguna persona, situación que dependerá de aspectos sociales como la pobreza, la poca organización social, aspectos culturales, instituciones, etc. Por la complejidad del problema, no puede ser atacado desde una sola disciplina es por eso que ha dejado de ser un tema sólo del área científica y las ciencias sociales han logrado tener mayor participación en la propuesta e implementación de medidas de mitigación y adaptación. Por supuesto, la educación tiene un papel relevante, ya que puede contribuir a la transformación social, necesaria para evitar las prácticas que aceleran y causan el deterioro ambiental y situaciones como la que representa el cambio climático. Además, puede contribuir en el incremento de la capacidad adaptativa en las personas, pues mientras se tenga un mayor conocimiento de la problemática hay más oportunidades de actuar. Por lo anterior, lo que se presenta en el documento es la propuesta de un diplomado realizado con docentes y para docentes del estado de Chiapas dentro del marco del Programa Educar con Responsabilidad Ambiental (ERA), mismo que se describirá a mayor profundidad en el documento.
