RESUMOA água destaca-se dentro do conceito de desenvolvimento sustentável, tanto pela sua importância para a vida, quanto pela problemática envolvida com perdas e desperdícios durante seu consumo. As edificações são um fator importante nessa questão, já que consomem grande quantidade de água durante as fases de construção, funcionamento e demolição. Esse aspecto e os demais impactos ambientais gerados pelas edificações nas fases citadas e a necessidade de alinhar o setor aos objetivos de desenvolvimento sustentável, levaram ao surgimento de sistemas de avaliações de desempenho e certificações ambientais para avaliar e validar as ações de adequação ambiental, como por exemplo, a Certificação Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (Certificação LEED). Este trabalho aponta os critérios estabelecidos por essa certificação quanto ao uso e manejo de águas, ou seja, critérios relacionados com projetos de Sistemas Prediais Hidráulicos e Sanitários (SPHS). Foram elaborados projetos de Sistemas Prediais de Esgoto Sanitário (SPES), de Águas Pluviais (SPAP) e Água Fria (SPAF) para uma determinada edificação com finalidade educativa, em atendimento aos critérios propostos pela mesma e pela normatização brasileira. Em relação a uma comparação entre os princípios da normatização brasileira e das orientações da Certificação LEED, observou-se que ambas não possuem tantas divergências, o que possibilita a aplicação das orientações da certificação americana no Brasil. A elaboração dos projetos de SPHS em atendimento aos critérios LEED, resultou em diretrizes como a separação de águas cinzas e negras no SPES, o dimensionamento de um sistema de aproveitamento de água pluvial, o aumento de áreas permeáveis e o uso de plantas típicas da região nos jardins para o SPAP, o emprego de bacias sanitárias de duplo acionamento e torneiras com dispositivos economizadores em lavatórios para o SPAF. Com as intervenções aqui propostas, foi possível reduzir 56% o consumo de água potável no edifício e, consequentemente, a geração de efluentes.
