A hipertensão arterial sistêmica é uma das doenças cardiovasculares mais prevalentes e gera grande impacto na saúde pública global. O evento do "Dia Mundial da Hipertensão: 1ª edição", teve como objetivo o estímulo à adoção de hábitos de vida saudáveis, através de informações que facilitam a compreensão básica da hipertensão arterial sistêmica, de seus riscos, de sua relação com os hábitos de vida, bem como dos claros benefícios da adoção de hábitos saudáveis. Após o primeiro dia do evento, avaliando os dados obtidos, observou-se que 71,4% das pessoas eram portadoras de sobrepeso ou obesas e 32,1% tinham algum grau de hipertensão. Tais achados são semelhantes aos reportados em estudos populacionais nacionais e de outros países, e reforçam a necessidade de intervenção em nossa população para reduzir complicações cardiovasculares. Esse foi o primeiro evento extensionista da Liga de prevenção de diabetes e doenças cardiovasculares, cujo molde servirá para eventos futuros.
A doença hepática gordurosa não alcoólica (DHGNA) é altamente prevalente na população adulta de países desenvolvidos e tem sido relacionada significativamente com o aumento da mortalidade por doenças cardiovasculares. A importância da pesquisa básica impõe a necessidade de modelos experimentais adequados e vários modelos tem sido propostos para a DHGNA, porém, não há modelo estabelecido como padrão até o momento. Desenvolver um modelo experimental de DHGNA em rato Wistar. Foram utilizados 16 ratos wistar, divididos em 4 grupos: grupo controle basal (CB), grupo controle normal (GN), grupo colesterol (GC) e grupo dieta hiperlipídica (DH). O grupo GN foi alimentado com ração padrão Nuvilar®, o grupo GC com ração colesterol a 3% e o grupo DH com ração hiperlipídica. Excetuando o grupo CB que foi sacrificado na linha de base, os outros foram submetidos à eutanásia na 8ª e 12ª semana. A avaliação realizada sob os critérios do sistema de escore para a análise histológica da DHGNA não mostrou alterações que caracterizam o desenvolvimento da doença em nenhum animal utilizado nessa proposta de modelo experimental. Conclusão: Nenhum dos grupos desenvolveu DHGNA. O período do estudo foi possivelmente insuficiente para indução de DHGNA em ratos Wistar por meio das composições dietéticas utilizadas.
As doenças cardiovasculares são as principais causas de morte em todo o mundo e a obesidade, bem como a diabetes mellitus tipo 2 emergem como epidemia global. A prevenção é a base para a abordagem das doenças cardiovasculares para se reverter esse panorama sombrio e a conscientização por meio da informação pode aumentar a adesão da população em geral às mudanças nos hábitos de vida que são fundamentais nesse contexto. As informações obtidas em um atendimento básico como anamnese compacta e objetiva, aferição da pressão arterial e avaliação de glicemia capilar, como parâmetro para orientações individualizadas, associados a palestras educativas com linguagem acessível, podem ajudar a romper a barreira entre o conhecimento científico e a população. O envolvimento pleno do acadêmico da área de saúde nesse processo de transmissão de conhecimento, sob a coordenação de um professor e pesquisador, permite a conexão plena entre a pesquisa, o ensino e a extensão. Sob esses fundamentos, foi criado o projeto de extensão sob o título: prevenção primária e secundária de doenças cardiovasculares e diabetes tipo 2 como o objetivo de levar o conhecimento científico com linguagem apropriada para a população, tendo como um dos principais veículos o acadêmico da área de saúde.

Cardiovascular diseases are the leading causes of death worldwide and obesity as well as type 2 diabetes mellitus are emerging as a global epidemic. Prevention is the basis for addressing cardiovascular disease to reverse this grim scenario, and raising awareness through information can increase the adherence of the general population to changes in lifestyle habits that are fundamental in this context. The information obtained in a basic care, such as a compact and objective anamnesis, blood pressure measurement, and capillary glycemia evaluation, as a parameter for individualized orientations, associated to educational lectures with accessible language, can help to break the barrier between scientific knowledge and the population. The full involvement of health academics in this knowledge transmission process, under the coordination of a professor and researcher, allows the full connection between research, teaching, and extension. Under these foundations, the extension project was created under the title: Primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular diseases and CHAPTER 71 Connecting extension, teaching and research through a broad academic project Relevant studies focused on health sciences - Connecting extension, teaching and research through a broad academic project 761 type 2 diabetes with the objective of taking scientific knowledge to the population in an appropriate language, having the health academic as one of the main vehicles.
