Bovine bone substitutes are among the most commonly used biomaterials for sinus grafting application. The aim of this work was to verify the clinical use and performance of a novel natural bovine bone substitute with hyaluronate in a sinus lifting procedure.Therefore, a lateral sinus lift approach was used, and a very strong hard tissue formation of residual xenograft granules embedded into newly formed bone was observed after eight months, as two implants were finally installed. In conclusion, the bovine bone substitute with hyaluronate supported efficient defect grafting and achieved successful sinus augmentation.
We report a case of restoration of the masticatory and phonetic functions of a senior patient with comorbidities who receives systemic medication and lacks sufficient bone volume for implant placement in the accurate position. X-ray shows severe asymmetric atrophy of the mandible, especially on the right sight, which affects the location of the mandibular canal. This greatly limits and complicates the restoration of the masticatory and phonetic functions with conventional prostheses. Adequate management of medication and long-term disease control of the patient allow safe surgery for tooth extraction and placement of intraosseous implants in the jaw bones.
This case report describes the diagnosis and treatment challenges of an accidentally discovered bone lesion in the lower jaw that develops asymptomatically. The X-ray image present an osteolytic heterogeneous single-layer lesion, well sharpened with round borders similar to a group of bone lesions, which include ossifying fibroma, fibrous dysplasia, aneurysmal bone cysts, hemangioma and others. The clinical course and the X-ray finding can make difficult a preliminary diagnosis of the lesion and treatment plan.
