Ce rapport de cas décrit des déplacements dentaires orthodontiques réussis, au travers du
sinus maxillaire chez une patiente adulte. Il s’agit d’une femme de 41 ans d’origine
asiatique présentant une biprochéïlie sévère et l’absence de plusieurs dents postérieures.
Son traitement orthodontique incluait l’avulsion de deux dents, le recul maximal des
incisives par utilisation des espaces d’extraction et ceux laissés par les molaires
manquantes, ainsi que la fermeture des espaces résiduels. En dépit de la longue durée du
traitement due à des contraintes anatomiques et biologiques associées aux déplacements des
dents postérieures sur une longue distance au travers du sinus maxillaire, un résultat
satisfaisant est obtenu avec un remodelage osseux significatif du sinus maxillaire. Ces
résultats démontrent qu’un système de force bien choisi peut permettre de venir à bout des
contraintes anatomiques représentées par la paroi corticale du sinus maxillaire lors des
déplacements dentaires.
