Palavras-chave: acúmulo de forragem, altura de corte, braquiarão, gramínea, produtividade Morphogenetic and structural traits and herbage production of marandugrass under intensities and frequencies of defoliationABSTRACT -This trial was carried out to evaluate the influence of defoliation intensities (10 and 20 cm stubble height) and defoliation frequencies (three cut intervals based on the appearance of 5, 7 and 9 leaves/tiller after each defoliation event) on the morphogenetic and structural traits, tillering and herbage production of Brachiaria brizantha cv Marandu swards. Treatments were allocated to experimental units according to a completely randomized design, in a 2 x 3 factorial arrangement, with three replications, in a total of 18 experimental units. Two cuts were performed in the most frequent treatment and one cut for the remaining treatments. Greater defoliation intensity resulted in greater leaf tissue turn over and, when combined to greater defoliation freque...
Palavras-chave: fertilidade real, intervalo de partos, parâmetros reprodutivos, componentes principais, correlações Reproductive and Production Components for the Beef Herd of Embrapa CerradosABSTRACT -The objective of this work was to analyze the various factors which influence calving interval (CI), true fertility (TF), ratio of birth (RBW) and weaning weight (RWW) of the calf to the calving weight of the cow, using the crossbred herd of EMBRAPA Cerrados as a model. The data, from 4469 calvings, collected between 1976 and 1999, was analyzed using the GLM, CORR and PRINCOMP procedures of SAS. The reproductive parameters investigated include ratio of calf birth weight/calving weight of cow (RBW), calf weaning weight / calving weight of cow (RWW) and TF as well as body condition scores (BC) and weights. The correlations between the traits were, generally, low, and sometimes negative with RBW and RWW while with TF they were higher. BC at calving did not affect mortality nor calf birth weight but did affect the following calving interval. The FR increased with increased calving BC as did calving interval. A lower calving interval and higher true fertility was observed with higher weaning BC score. The genetic group of the bull did not influence any of the traits analyzed, which group of the cow influenced birth weight. The environment (month, year and number of parturition) and genetics (sex) significantly influenced birth and weaning weights. The first two principal components explain 56% of the total variation between...
Palavras-chave: gramínea, irrigação, nitrogênio, produtividade, taxa de produção de matéria seca Management of Nitrogen Fertilization and of Water Tension on the Production of Dry Matter and Leaf Area Index of Tifton 85 Cultivated in the Cerrado RegionABSTRACT -This work was carried out to evaluate the influence of water tensions (35, 60, 100 and 500 kPa) and nitrogen levels (0 -Control, 45, 90, 180, 360 kg/ha) on the dry matter (DM) yield, the dry matter yield rate (DMYR) and the leaf area index (LAI) of Cynodon spp. cv. Tifton 85 bermudagrass. A randomized blocks design in a split splot scheme with three replications was used, split plots were represented by the water tensions were and the plots, by the nitrogen (N) levels. The dry matter yield was influenced by the nitrogen levels for all tensions, where the highest productivity (41.8 t/ha) was obtained at 35 kPa the tension and the maximum N level (360 kg/ha of N), while the smallest productivity (17.3 t/ha), at 100 kPa the tension without N addition. At the tensions of 60, 100 and 500 kPa there was limitation in the use of N at the highest doses, due to the deficit water. Higher DMAR were observed from 09/21 to 11/29, and the averages ranged from 73.4 to 194.6 kg/ha/day of DM, while from 05/26 to 08/09 the smallest averages were observed, that ranged from 44.9 to 55.2 kg/ha/day of DM. No effect of N levels was observed from 03/16 to 08/09. In the other periods, DMYR increased as N levels increased. There was no effect of the different water tensions on DMYR. LAI increased as N levels increased, f...
