SZEMLEA legtöbb embernek, ha azt a szót hallja, hogy történelem, a régmúlt jut eszébe: óko-ri civilizációk, középkori királyok, hadjára-tok, politikai összecsapások, cselszövések, nemzetek megerősödése és bukása, társa-dalmi változások. Csak kevesen gondolnak arra, hogy ma már a számítógépek iskolai megjelenése is annak számít. Pedig az, hiszen már az 1970-es években, sőt egyes országokban már az 1960-as évektől törek-vések tapasztalhatók, hogy az akkor még szenzációnak számító számítógépet integrálják az oktatásba.Az Arthur Tatnall és Bill Davey szerkesztette tanulmánygyűjtemény szokatlan módon mutatja be a számítógépek iskolai alkalmazásának történelmét. Nem hosszú listákkal, adatokkal, táblázatokkal, nevekkel, hardver-és szoftverleírásokkal vagy tantervi programokkal ismerteti meg az olvasót, hanem egy-egy személyes perspektívával, refl exióval. A történeteket minden esetben az abban részt vevő, azt megélő hiteles személyek mesélik el. Egyes fejezetek nagyon személyes aspektusból ábrázolják a kor eseményeit, mások inkább tényeken alapulóan. Ez a különbség még érdekesebbé és kibogozhatóbbá teszi a korra jellemző vál-tozásokat, valamint az egyes országok kö-zötti hasonlóságokat, különbségeket abból a szempontból, hogy mit, mikor és hogyan cselekedtek.A kötet szerkesztői négy korszakot különítenek el.
