Los productos financieros actuales ofrecen una asequibilidad sin precedentes, lo cual facilita nuevas oportunidades para la inclusión financiera de los jóvenes. Sin embargo, esto conlleva numerosos riesgos asociados a su bajo conocimiento acerca de los beneficios y desventajas de los diferentes productos financieros. Esto se asocia, entre otras causas, a la baja implementación de programas de Educación Económica y Financiera - EEF- en las instituciones educativas. Para el caso de Colombia, los resultados de las mediciones de capacidades económicas y financieras son poco favorables, pues evidencian bajos niveles de conocimiento en finanzas personales por parte de los estudiantes de educación básica y media del país (OECD, 2014). Este trabajo presenta los primeros hallazgos obtenidos tras el diagnóstico de las capacidades económicas y financieras de 614 estudiantes pertenecientes a 5 instituciones educativas de la región de Santander, en Colombia, mediante la aplicación de un instrumento validado por la OECD. Los resultados preliminares muestran que los hallazgos encontrados, concuerdan con los presentados en la literatura, donde se evidencia que efectivamente los comportamientos financieros (es decir, la habilidad, la actitud y el conocimiento) de los estudiantes se ven afectados positivamente por la implementación de la educación financiera impartida a través del currículo escolar.
Dada la evidente necesidad de educar económica y financieramente a la población, se han implementado en diferentes partes del mundo estrategias y programas que permiten desarrollar los conocimientos y comportamientos financieros de los jóvenes. Sin embargo, existen pocos estudios que permitan extraer evaluaciones significativas del impacto de dichos programas sobre la transformación de los hábitos y comportamientos de los jóvenes en materia financiera. Por lo que, este artículo busca reconocer la dinámica de publicación de dichos estudios, así como, identificar a través de los resultados de las diferentes investigaciones, los principales comportamientos financieros que logran desarrollar los jóvenes a partir de los programas de educación financiera implementados en instituciones educativas a nivel global. Los resultados de esta investigación revelan que la implementación de estos programas, genera cambios positivos sobre algunos de los comportamientos financieros de los jóvenes, principalmente sobre su comportamiento de ahorro y planificación para la jubilación, lo cual les permite tomar decisiones financieras asertivas, mejorando así su calidad de vida y la de sus familias.
La Educación Económica y Financiera (EEF) se ha convertido en uno de los principales pilares para combatir la desigualdad y promover el desarrollo de estilos de vida sostenibles. Sin embargo en Colombia, las mediciones de capacidades económicas y financieras, evidencian niveles realmente bajos, especialmente en la población más joven, pues presentan un notable desconocimiento frente a los conceptos y procesos relacionados con las finanzas personales. Para hacer frente a dicha necesidad formativa de manera eficaz, es indispensable innovar e implementar metodologías de enseñanza y de aprendizaje que motiven y despierten en el estudiante el interés por aprender y que a la vez suplan las crecientes demandas en el uso de nuevas alternativas de enseñanza virtuales. Respondiendo a este desafío se concibe la gamificación como una herramienta didáctica que permite motivar al estudiante valiéndose de elementos propios del juego. Es bajo este contexto, que el proyecto de investigación FINATIC plantea el diseño y desarrollo de una herramienta gamificada o videojuego que permita motivar a los jóvenes en el aprendizaje de EEF con el objetivo de promover estilos de vida sostenibles. Para ello, este trabajo emplea la metodología de Diseño Centrado en el Usuario (DCU), que contempla la inclusión de las percepciones del usuario objetivo durante el proceso de diseño para garantizar su éxito. Como resultado, se obtiene un videojuego de construcción y gestión de recursos de tipo plataforma web, en el que el usuario debe construir una ciudad mientras adquiere conocimientos y habilidades relacionados con la EEF, a través de mecánicas como, preguntas saber 11, dilemas, tips y conceptos financieros.
