The Behavior Education Program (BEP;Crone et al., 2004) is a modified check-in, check-out intervention implemented with students who are at risk for more severe problem behaviors. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of the BEP on problem behavior with 12 elementary school students. Results indicated that the BEP was implemented with high fidelity, led to a decrease in office discipline referrals for the majority of students who received the intervention, and had high social validity ratings. Limitations of the current study are presented, along with suggestions for future research.
Secondary level or Tier 2 interventions such as the Check-in Check-out (CICO) intervention effectively reduce problem behaviors of students who are non-responsive to school-wide interventions. However, some students will not be successful with Tier 2 interventions. This study investigated the effects of adding individualized function-based support for four students with disabilities who were not successful in general education settings while receiving only a secondary level intervention. Results indicated that the combination of secondary and individualized function-based interventions effectively decreased problem behavior for all participants. Teachers and students rated the interventions as acceptable and effective. Research and practice implications are discussed.
When monitoring atmospheric polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) levels, the sampling method used should depend on the type of source and the level of contamination. The different types of sampling equipment used, both low- and high-volume, are discussed briefly in connection with the types of sources monitored and the efficiency of the equipment in collecting and retaining the PCBs. The methodology employed in the extraction, cleanup, and analysis of the samples is also discussed. The actual PCB sources tested, both indoor and outdoor, are discussed at some length with respect to the source type, sampling methodology used, and PCB levels found. Particular attention is given to monitoring the cleanup of a PCB spill site.
