RESUMOEste artigo procura desafiar algo que se tornou comum nos últimos anos: a glorificação acrítica da pesquisa-ação. Defende-se a idéia de que essa forma de investigação seja desenvolvida de maneira bastante séria e que sejam reforçados os laços do movimento de pesquisa-ação com as lutas mais amplas por justiça social, econômica e política. Argumenta-se que o movimento pode contribuir para o processo de transformação social em termos da sua capacidade de melhorar a formação profissional; do potencial controle que esses profissionais passam a exercer sobre o conhecimento que norteia o seu trabalho; da influência da pesquisa-ação sobre mudanças institucionais nos lugares em que esses profissionais trabalham; e, finalmente, da contribuição da pesquisa-ação para que as sociedades tornem-se mais democráticas e mais decentes para todos. ResumoEste artigo discute a prática como componente curricular na formação de professores a partir de três perspectivas: 1) uma análise dessa expressão na atual legislação educacional brasileira, ou seja, nos documentos legais sobre Educação que foram produzidos, no País, a partir da aprovação da Lei de Diretrizes Nacionais da Educação Nacional (Lei no. 9.394/96), de 1996; 2) uma discussão, baseada nos trabalhos de John Dewey, sobre as origens das dificuldades de se compreender e se seguir o princípio da indissociabilidade teoria-prática na formação docente e, por fim, 3) a apresentação de algumas possibilidades colocadas pelo movimento pela profissionalização do trabalho docente um movimento iniciado nos anos 1980, nos Estados Unidos e Canadá, e que tem como princípios: conceber o ensino como uma atividade profissional apoiada em um sólido repertório de conhecimentos, entender a prática profissional como um lugar de formação e de produção de saberes pelos práticos e estabelecer ligação entre as instituições universitárias de formação e as escolas da Educação Básica.Palavras-chave: formação de professores; prática como componente curricular; trabalho docente.

O ovo ou a galinha é uma referência a um dilema de causalidade que surge da conhecida expressão “O que veio antes, o ovo ou a galinha?” Temos a sensação de que estamos diante de um dilema semelhante quando discutimos a crise da profissão docente em nosso País: seria a crise das licenciaturas, em função da sua baixa procura e o número supostamente insuficiente de diplomados, que levaria a uma crise do magistério ou esta que explicaria os problemas enfrentados pelos cursos de formação docente? Neste artigo, apresentarei argumentos demonstrando que a crise da profissão docente apresenta múltiplos fatores e que existem formas de se sair desse suposto dilema.
O propósito deste artigo é discutir o campo de pesquisa sobre formação de professores.Para tal, o autor procurou responder as seguintes questões: Como se constituiu ocampo de pesquisa sobre formação de professores no Brasil e no mundo? Como ele se consolidou como tal? Quais as principais modificações ocorridas nesse campo em termos de temáticas e metodologias de pesquisa? Quais são os atuais focos de investigação desse campo? Quais as principais críticas e os problemas enfrentados por ele desde o seu surgimento? Quais as recomendações para que se aumente a qualidade das pesquisas sobre formação de professores e, por via de consequência,que o campo se fortaleça? Ainda que se trate de um campo de pesquisa relativamente novo na área de Educação, a formação de professores vem se desenvolvendo muito rapidamente. Tal crescimento coloca desafios para esse campo em termos da qualidade de suas produções acadêmicas.
