IntroduçãoMuitas pacientes com câncer sofrem perda iatrogênica da função ovariana, mesmo sem o ová-rio estar envolvido na doença, em decorrência de tratamento radioterápico e quimioterápico 1 . Essa conduta resulta em menopausa precoce e distúr-bios funcionais, tais como disfunção sexual, níveis alterados de lipoproteínas, maior risco de osteoporose e de doenças cardíacas, dentre outros 2,3 . Em muitos outros casos, a ooforectomia é realizada por princípio ou necessidade 4 , em um procedimento sobre a pelve, mesmo sem haver inconveniência de se manter o ovário. Com o objetivo de se manterem os níveis hormonais, fisiologicamente, tem sido proposto o implante autólogo ovariano heterotópico [5][6][7] . Diversas técnicas de implante autólogo ovariano vêm sendo pesquisadas continuamente em animais [8][9][10][11][12][13] . O estudo da preservação da função ovariana em várias espécies animais resulta em informações conflitantes na literatura quanto à eficácia da manutenção dos níveis hormonais 14,15 . Estudos iniciais publicados por Cooper et al. 16 , em cobaias, e por Long e Evans 17 , em ratos, mostraram que o ciclo ovariano pode ser monitorado por meio de mudanças na citologia vaginal.
