O desenvolvimento tecnológico ocorrido nas últimas décadas tem possibilitado a extração de dados geográficos dos elementos da superfície terrestre em suas três dimensões. Além da viabilidade na aquisição desses dados, as técnicas de computação gráficas também têm possibilitado a representação desses dados, transformando-os em informações visuais. Técnicas de visualização e a possibilidade de comunicação entre usuário e computador oferecem novas maneiras de representar a paisagem. Entretanto, do ponto de vista da cartografia, a representação de informações temáticas através de um modelo tridimensional ainda se encontra numa fase inicial. Como na cartografia bidimensional, alguns princípios cartográficos devem estar presentes no modelo 3D de forma que o usuário reconheça as informações representadas no mapa e seja capaz de aumentar o seu conhecimento através da visualização. Dentro do escopo deste problema, este trabalho aborda algumas questões pertinentes a percepção do usuário para futuramente propor a construção de representações cartográficas 3D. Para tal, modelos tridimensionais são construídos, usando variáveis de representação como a textura, o grau de generalização dos elementos do mapa, ângulo e distância de observação, iluminação, cor do fundo e uso de canevá. Esses mapas gerados foram utilizados para um primeiro teste nesta área. A partir dos resultados obtidos, conclusões a respeito do uso das variáveis e a preferência dos usuários foram deduzidas. Este teste é de caráter preliminar e novos esforços devem ser dedicados a este tema, com o objetivo de propor recomendações para a construção de representações cartográficas tridimensionais.
A tecnologia de impressão 3D vem revolucionando muitas práticas de projeto com a possibilidade de geração de protótipos ou peças perfeitamente funcionais nas mais diversas áreas do conhecimento, tal como a Cartografia. Diferentes tipos de produtos cartográficos confeccionados por esses métodos produtivos podem ser encontrados na literatura. Todavia, ainda pouco é explorada a questão científica de como é este processo de produção cartográfica 3D, tampouco discutida sobre esta nova forma de abordagem de produtos cartográficos tangíveis. Neste sentido, o presente artigo apresenta os conceitos de impressão 3D aplicados à Cartografia e exemplos teórico-conceituais sobre o emprego da modelagem tridimensional aliada à manufatura aditiva na geração de produtos cartográficos. São apresentadas as vantagens da impressão 3D, tais como a visualização, o tempo de produção, uso de diferentes materiais para variados produtos, que antes eram de difícil produção, além da possibilidade de geração de novas formas de representação. São destacados elementos que ainda necessitam de maiores pesquisas, tais como a simbolização, a generalização aplicada aos modelos geométricos tridimensionais, o uso de cores na impressão 3D e de textos e toponímias.
Com o intuito de tornar a modelagem tridimensional mais acessível no âmbito da Cartografia e incentivar a sua prática, este trabalho abordou o uso de digitalizadores tridimensionais portáteis e de baixo custo para a geração de produtos cartográficos, para fins de documentação, reprodução ou representação de modelos virtuais. Como esta prática ainda é pouco explorada no Brasil, este trabalho apresenta uma metodologia específica para avaliar o digitalizador tridimensional de melhor custo-benefício. Foram avaliados três digitalizadores tridimensionais: o 3D Scanner Pro 1.0, o Scanner 3D Sense e o MakerBot Digitizer Desktop 3D Scanner. Foram modelados seis corpos de prova, que foram impressos por uma impressora 3D e digitalizados pelos três digitalizadores tridimensionais. Foram definidos três parâmetros de avaliação: as especificações técnicas, a experiência do usuário e a análise estatística. Para avaliar as especificações técnicas foram abordadas três variáveis: resolução, mobilidade e custo. Para avaliar a experiência do usuário foram consideradas: facilidade de uso e o tempo de digitalização. E para avaliar a análise estatística foram usadas as medidas das peças digitalizadas, comparadas com suas medidas originais. Os resultados obtidos mostraram um resultado semelhante entre o 3D Scanner Pro 1.0 e o MakerBot Digitizer Desktop 3D Scanner. Devido ao 3D Scanner Pro 1.0 ter um custo mais baixo do que o MakerBot Digitizer Desktop 3D Scanner, o mesmo foi escolhido como o digitalizador de melhor custo-benefício. Para complementar o trabalho e verificar a potencialidade prática dessa tecnologia, duas novas feições foram escolhidas, digitalizadas, com o digitalizador escolhido, e impressas, pela impressora 3D. Os resultados se mostraram satisfatório e incentiva o uso dessa tecnologia como meio de geração de produtos cartográficos 3D.
O objetivo deste artigo é apresentar o método de desenvolvimento de símbolos táteis. Durante a produção dos símbolos foi utilizada uma impressora 3D, do tipo Prusa por fusão de ABS. Os símbolos produzidos geraram a representação de um mapa de orientação ao visitante. Eles foram desenvolvidos com a participação de um graduando de 24 anos, totalmente cego desde os 15 anos. Quatro entrevistas permitiram avaliar a eï¬cácia dos símbolos e após cada entrevista os resultados eram analisados, discutidos e implementados numa nova versão. Finalmente foi construído um mapa tátil de localização do primeiro pavimento do prédio principal da UFRRJ. A eï¬ciência do mapa foi testada pela medida do tempo de execução de cinco tarefas propostas ao avaliador do mapa. As experiências estabeleceram aspectos importantes em relação a produção de símbolos táteis. Foi observado que o símbolo associado ao braille tem grande potencial, mas a construção apresentada ainda não obteve resultados aceitáveis por não resistir ao manuseio. A solução parcial foi a associação de técnicas artesanais no acabamento do símbolo tátil. Outra conclusão foi a necessidade de treinamento do usuário para a compreensão de símbolos que venham a fazer a associação pictórica de signiï¬cado. O avaliador levou cerca de 16 minutos para executar 5 tarefas pré-estabelecidas. O layout do mapa e a legenda precisam de maiores estudos pois revelam paradigmas originados da necessidade ergonômica do leitor e dos requisitos da escrita braille.
