AbstractThis paper aimed to know the level of resilience from a sample of university students in a public institution of education in the state of Jalisco, Mexico. In addition to that, the relationship and difference between resilience and the variables of gender, age and socioeconomic status were analyzed. For this research, it was used the Resilience Scale developed by Wagnild and Young (1993) in the version translated and adapted to Spanish by Heilemann, Kury and Lee (2003), which consists of 25 reagents in the Likert scaling. This was used to measure the variable of interest. The results show high levels of resilience in university students and there were no significant differences between the career, sex and age variables. It was concluded that high resilience is a very generalized characteristic in the majority of college students. Finally, further research with other sample sizes and other careers is highly recommended. Likewise, the works, not included in this study, that relate resilience to other psychosocial variables are recommended as well.
AbstractThe objectives of this work were to identify the relationship between self-concept and social support in high school students, compare both variables according to sex and, finally, recognize the strength of the dimensions of social support (family and friends) in the prediction of self-concept. The sample consisted of 567 students. The instruments were the Self-concept Scale (AF-5) and the Family and Friends Social
One of the most important challenges for educational research in recent years has been to know how ICT and the teaching strategies used by teachers impact on students' meaningful learning, because although there are constant pedagogical actions that allow combining ICT with traditional training, educational modality called blended learning, there are still no concrete results to demonstrate the success that these types of actions have. The aim is to recognize the perception that students have of the significant learning they achieve and the teaching strategies used by their teachers in this type of modality. To achieve this aim, the Significant Learning Perception Scale in Blended Learning (S.L.P.S.B.L.) was designed and validated, which showed adequate psychometric properties, which allows it to be considered as valid and reliable. The sample was integrated by 110 students of the career of law of a public institution. The results show that participants have the perception that their level of meaningful learning combined with the teaching strategies used by their teachers reach average levels, there being significant differences according to their age, which suggests placing greater emphasis on the type of strategies used in the blended learning.
Students of a university hospital were assessed in 2007 and later in 2013 to determine the prevalence of metabolic syndrome. Statistical analysis was done with SPSS version 17.0.A total of 213 students were evaluated in both 2007 and 2013 (48.3 % women and 51.7 % men). The diagnosis of overweight and obesity increased from 24.9 to 37.1 % (p < 0.05), central obesity from 17.8 to 28.6 % (p < 0.05), and prevalence of metabolic syndrome from 9.8 to 14.5 % (p ≥ 0.05); up to 20 % in male gender. It is important to implement programs for early diagnosis of metabolic syndrome.
