As ligas de titânio são bem satisfatórias para aplicações biomédicas devido a suas propriedades físicas, mecânicas e biológicas. Recentemente, houve muitas pesquisas voltadas para o desenvolvimento de ligas de Ti do tipo β, compostas de elementos não tóxicos (Nb,Mo,Ta,...), pois as vantagens destas ligas em relação as ligas do tipo alfa e alfa + βeta (Ti-6- Al-4V) incluem seu menor módulo de elasticidade, melhor plasticidade e, alem disso, as variáveis de processo podem ser controladas para produzir resultados selecionados. Este projeto focou o desenvolvimento e caracterização da liga Ti-12Mo-3Nb no estado bruto de fusão e após tratamento termomecânico. O material nas diferentes condições foi caracterizado por difrações de raios X, microscopia ótica, medida de microdureza e modulo de elasticidade. Os resultados mostraram que a liga Ti-12Mo-3Nb na condição forjada apresentou a melhor combinação de propriedades, sendo um promissor candidato para ser utilizado como implante.
