<p>Este trabajo describe la metodología para el modelamiento de dispersión en el suelo de cinco contaminantes atmosféricos: PM<sub>10</sub>, SO<sub>2</sub>, NO<sub>x</sub>, H<sub>x</sub>C<sub>y</sub> y CO, emitidos por una chimenea virtual y generados por la combustión de derivados de petróleo dentro de un área de modelación ubicada al norte de la ciudad de Puebla, México y delimitada por los parques industriales Puebla 2000 y 5 de Mayo, tomados como fuentes puntuales de emisión. Mediante el modelo de dispersión de Gauss se estimó la distancia donde se localiza la máxima concentración a nivel del suelo de cada contaminante debajo de la línea central de la pluma y a favor del viento. En los resultados encontrados destacan una distancia promedio de dispersión para los contaminantes, la existencia de una relación entre la distancia alcanzada por los contaminantes y el área de cada parque industrial así como las concentraciones halladas de cada contaminante. Esta modelación demostró que si bien el modelo de Gauss representa una opción económica para estimar la calidad del aire de una zona donde se carece de equipo para muestreos in situ, la exactitud del modelo puede representar una desventaja, por lo que el uso de este modelo es recomendable para estudios de tipo cualitativo.</p>
