La marchitez por Fusarium causada por Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. lycopersici (Fol) es una de las enfermedades más importantes del cultivo del tomate (Solanum lycopersicum L.). Su variabilidad patogénica ha originado las razas 1, 2 y 3, ya descritas en varios países. En México se ha reportado en Sinaloa, Baja California Sur y Morelos. El tomate es un cultivo hortícola muy importante en Villa de Arista, San Luis Potosí, por lo que el objetivo de este trabajo fue caracterizar mediante pruebas de patogenicidad la variabilidad en la virulencia de aislamientos de Fol en predios tomateros de esta región. Se obtuvieron 27 aislamientos de Fusarium oxysporum de plantas de tomate con síntomas característicos de la marchitez por Fusarium de nueve variedades en siete predios tomateros, las cuales se procesaron en laboratorio para aislar el hongo, purif icarlo, preparar inoculo y realizar pruebas de patogenicidad. Las variedades diferenciales utilizadas fueron Bonny Best, susceptible a las razas 1, 2 y 3; Manapal, resistente a la raza 1; Walter, resistente a las razas 1 y 2; e I3R3, resistente a las razas 1, 2 y 3. Las razas identificadas fueron, raza 2 en las variedades Rafaello y Tipsey en los predios Agro Viva y Rancho el Clérigo, y la raza 3 en las variedades El Cid, Aníbal y 77-05 en los predios San Gilberto, Santa María Elena yLourdes.Laidentificacióndeestasrazasmediantelatécnica molecular de la Reacción en Cadena de la Polimerasa (PCR) coincidió con los resultados de las pruebas patogénicas.
La poliembrionía en maíz (Zea mays L.) es un carácter genético que se caracteriza por producir semilla prolífica y granos con alta calidad nutritiva. En este trabajo se estudió la germinación, frecuencia poliembriónica y anormalidad en plántulas de 15 d de edad, así mismo, se determinó el efecto del sentido de cruza al formar familias de hermanos completos sobre estas variables. Las familias provenientes de tres tipos de familias; (líneas S1; hermanos completos HC; y medios hermanos, MH) se derivaron de una población poliembriónica de porte normal, denominada UA-IMM-NAP, durante el ciclo P-V/2005 en Saltillo, Coahuila, México. Las familias (403 S1, 330 HC y 169 MH) se sembraron en cajas de germinación con 30 semillas por caja, y a los 15 d después de la siembra se hicieron las evaluaciones. El diseño experimental fue completamente al azar, con datos desbalanceados, con un modelo de efectos aleatorios. Los resultados mostraron que el grupo de MH presentó superioridad (P < 0.01) sobre los otros dos, en germinación (95 %), poliembrionía (63 %) y normalidad de plántula (90 %). La endogamia de las líneas S1 redujo los valores de las características evaluadas y no produjo incremento en poliembrionía, pero permitió ubicar familias con mayor carga de genes deletéreos. Al comparar cruzas directas vs. recíprocas de los HC, se detectaron diferencias (P < 0.05) en poliembrionía, con 64 % para cruzas directas y 56 % para las recíprocas.
Aquí se plantea que la poliembrionía (PE) que ocurre en dos poblaciones de maíz (Zea mays L.) es controlada por dos loci epistáticos, donde basta la presencia de un alelo dominante de cualquiera de ellos para expresar la condición normal de plántula (acción génica duplicada), por lo que la poliembrionía se expresa sólo con el genotipo doble homocigótico recesivo. El análisis genético incluyó progenies F1, F2 y RC1 de cruzas de las poblaciones IMM-UAAAN-BAP (D) e IMM-UAAAN-NAP (C) con ocho materiales exóticos, los cuales fueron seis híbridos comerciales, un híbrido simple experimental y una población del CIMMYT. Las 16 cruzas F1 fueron obtenidas en Tepalcingo, Mor., en 2007; las F2 en Buenavista, Coah., en 2008; y las retrocruzas (RC1) en Buenavista, en 2009. La evaluación de la PE en progenies F1 y F2 se hizo en invernadero y campo, bajo un diseño de bloques completos al azar con 4 o 5 repeticiones, y la RC1 en invernadero. La segregación de la PE en F2 se probó con la hipótesis de dos loci recesivos hipostáticos 15:1 (progenie No-PE vs. progenie PE), y para las retrocruzas la hipótesis fue 12:4. Como se esperaba, la PE no se expresó en F1 pero sí en F2 y RC1, en proporciones de 3 a 7 % y de 13 a 22 %, respectivamente. Estas proporciones son compatibles con las hipótesis planteadas, pero con la consideración de penetrancia incompleta la cual se pudo observar en montos de 10 a 50 %, según la fuente de germoplasma exótico en combinación con las poblaciones PE. Los resultados de pruebas de χ2 aplicadas a las proporciones observadas en los dos tipos de análisis estadístico, apoyan la propuesta de herencia de la PE en las dos poblaciones de maíz bajo estudio.
En este trabajo se analizó la expresión fenotípica y genotípica de 90 cruzas simples directas (A x B) de maíz (Zea mays L.) formadas por el apareamiento de 10 líneas del Grupo Enano (A) con nueve líneas normales (B) QPM (Quality Protein Maize), más las 90 cruzas recíprocas (B x A). Las cruzas se evaluaron en tres ambientes contrastantes en 2004. Se utilizó el promedio de altura de planta (cm) y rendimiento de mazorca (t ha-1) a través de localidades para analizar la expresión de las cruzas, y estimar la aptitud combinatoria de líneas y cruzas en las combinaciones A x B y B x A. Se encontraron diferencias (P ≤ 0.01) entre cruzas, así como en los componentes de los grupos A x B y B x A, en las líneas, probadores y la interacción líneas x probador dentro de cada grupo, para las dos variables en estudio, así como en el contraste entre los grupos A x B vs. B x A. Esto indica la variabilidad de las líneas en cada grupo, la importancia de su interacción y la diferencia ente los efectos directos y recíprocos en cruzas. La expresión de las cruzas entre líneas de los dos grupos germoplásmicos estuvo determinada por efectos aditivos de las líneas QPM, principalmente con 70.2 y 61.5 % de la variación en altura de planta y rendimiento de mazorca, respectivamente. Al combinar líneas entre estos dos grupos germoplásmicos no emparentados genéticamente, cambió el orden de participación de los progenitores y determinó diferencias en la expresión fenotípica, y en la estimación de los efectos genéticos de las líneas y sus cruzas. El orden de cruzamiento modificó los valores estimados de aptitud combinatoria general en el Grupo Enano y los efectos no-aditivos de los dos grupos de líneas, ya que en la aptitud combinatoria específica se obtuvieron correlaciones del orden de rs = 0.184 y rs = 0.252* para altura de planta y rendimiento de mazorca.
El tomate es una de las hortalizas de mayor consumo a nivel mundial tanto en fresco como en procesos industriales. Sin embargo, en México los rendimientos en campo abierto e invernadero son generalmente bajos. Para incrementar el rendimiento es necesario, entre otras acciones, realizar evaluaciones respecto a los efectos genéticos en variedades e híbridos. El objetivo de este estudio fue determinar los efectos genéticos e identif icar genotipos con potencial de rendimiento en ocho variedades de tomate (Solanum lycopersicum L.) y sus 28 híbridos F1. Las cruzas se produjeron en un invernadero de la Universidad Autónoma Agraria Antonio Narro (UAAAN) en Saltillo, Coahuila, México, durante el ciclo (O-I 2011) y se evaluaron en un lote experimental de la misma universidad en el ciclo (P-V 2012), bajo un diseño experimental de bloques completos al azar, con tres repeticiones. Se observó significancia (p≤ 0.01 y p≤ 0.05), en las fuentes de variación de genotipos, variedades, heterosis, heterosis promedio, heterosis varietal y heterosis especifica en la mayoría de las variables en estudio. Las variedades IR9 e IR13 mostraron el mayor efecto de ACG y los híbridos IR14*D6, IR13*D4 y D4*D3 presentaron altos valores de ACE para rendimiento y por consecuencia los mayores rendimientos, superando los 100 t ha-1 en campo abierto. Las variedades y cruzas con mayores efectos aditivos (ACG) y no-aditivos (ACE) con respecto a rendimiento, podrían ser usadas dentro de un programa de mejoramiento genético, donde la acción aditiva puede ser manejada bajo un esquema de selección recurrente y la no-aditiva por hibridación.
