COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF MINING METHODS IN GYPSUM MINING AbstractIn Brazil, in general, the Open Pit Mining method by multiple benches is applied for gypsum mining, which is characterized by high operational costs and significant environmental impacts. Thinking about it, in the Ponta da Serra Mine of Gypsum Pole of Araripe, this method was replaced by Terrace Mining with the objective of optimizing gypsum exploitation operations. In this context, the objective of this study is to present the operational and economic benefits obtained from the change of the gypsum mining method. The methodology consisted in carrying out surveys on the operational practice of the two methods with an economic approach. The results showed that there was an improvement in the operations of the mine, operational costs reduction and environmental impacts minimization. It is concludedthat the adoption of adequate mining techniques allows a more economical operation, inserting mining in a sustainable context.
