O concreto é o principal material utilizado neste setor e para produzi-lo é necessário explorar grandes quantidades de recursos naturais, prejudicando o meio ambiente. Com isso, gera-se a necessidade de desenvolver materiais alternativos para substituir materiais constituintes do concreto e argamassa, como a areia natural. A areia de fundição, resíduo gerado das caldeiras de biomassa para produção de energia, é um material que pode ser utilizado como alternativa para minimizar o consumo de areia natural. A proposta deste trabalho é analisar a substituição em massa da areia natural em argamassas com 25, 50, 75 e 100% com relação cimento/areia 1:2 e relação água/cimento de 0,5. As argamassas foram submetidas ao ensaio de resistência de compressão aos 7, 28 e 90 dias de cura, além da determinação do índice de consistência, segundo as normas vigentes da Associação Brasileira de Normas Técnicas (ABNT). Para análise comparativa dos resultados, foram feitas amostras controles com 100% de areia natural. Para a idade de 7 dias todas as amostras com substituição em massa ficaram pouco abaixo do controle, porém para 28 e 90 dias, com substituição de 25 e 50%, as amostras obtiveram resistência igual ou superior ao controle. Portanto, o estudo mostrou que a areia de fundição é uma alternativa viável economicamente e sustentável.

AbstractCivil construction is responsible for much of the Brazilian economy. Concrete is the main material used in this sector and to produce it is necessary to exploit large amounts of natural resources, damaging the environment. As a result, there is a need to search for an alternative materials to replace concrete and mortar materials, such as natural sand. Foundry sand is a waste generated from biomass boilers for energy production, is a material that can be used as an alternative to minimize the consumption of natural sand. The aim of this work is to analyze the replacement of natural sand in mortars with 25, 50, 75 and 100% of natural sand replacement by mass with cement/sand proportion of 1: 2 and water / cement ratio of 0.5.
