The initial Phoenix Deep Survey (PDS) observations with the Australia Telescope Compact Array have been supplemented by additional 1.4 GHz observations over the past few years. Here we present details of the construction of a new mosaic image covering an area of 4.56 square degrees, an investigation of the reliability of the source measurements, and the 1.4 GHz source counts for the compiled radio catalogue. The mosaic achieves a 1σ rms noise of 12 µJy at its most sensitive, and a homogeneous radio-selected catalogue of over 2000 sources reaching flux densities as faint as 60 µJy has been compiled. The source parameter measurements are found to be consistent with the expected uncertainties from the image noise levels and the Gaussian source fitting procedure. A radio-selected sample avoids the complications of obscuration associated with optically-selected samples, and by utilising complementary PDS observations including multicolour optical, near-infrared and spectroscopic data, this radio catalogue will be used in a detailed investigation of the evolution in star-formation spanning the redshift range 0 < z < 1. The homogeneity of the catalogue ensures a consistent picture of galaxy evolution can be developed over the full cosmologically significant redshift range of interest. This paper presents the main operation modes for an electric vehicle (EV) battery charger framed in smart grids and smart homes, i.e., are discussed the present-day and are proposed new operation modes that can represent an asset towards EV adoption. Besides the well-known grid to vehicle (G2V) and vehicle to grid (V2G), this paper proposes two new operation modes: Home-to-vehicle (H2V), where the EV battery charger current is controlled according to the current consumption of the electrical appliances of the home (this operation mode is combined with the G2V and V2G); Vehicle-for-grid (V4G), where the EV battery charger is used for compensating current harmonics or reactive power, simultaneously with the G2V and V2G operation modes. The vehicle-to-home (V2H) operation mode, where the EV can operate as a power source in isolated systems or as an off-line uninterruptible power supply to feed priority appliances of the home during power outages of the electrical grid is presented in this paper framed with the other operation modes. These five operation modes were validated through experimental results using a developed 3.6 kW bidirectional EV battery charger prototype, which was specially designed for these operation modes. The paper describes the developed EV battery charger prototype, detailing the power theory and the voltage and current control strategies used in the control system. The paper presents experimental results for the various operation modes, both in steady-state and during transients.
The main contribution of this paper is the proposal of new modulation techniques for three-phase transformerless neutral point clamped inverters to eliminate leakage currents in photovoltaic systems without requiring any modification on the multilevel inverter or any additional hardware. The modulation techniques are capable of reducing the leakage currents in photovoltaic systems by applying three medium vectors or using only two medium vectors and one specific zero vector to compose the reference vector. In addition, to increase the system utilization, the three-phase neutral point clamped inverter can be designed to also provide functions of active filter using the p-q theory. The proposed system provides maximum power point tracking and compensation of current harmonics and reactive power. To validate the simulation models, an experimental three-phase inverter is used to evaluate leakage currents and the dc link voltage control.Index Terms-Energy conversion, photovoltaic power systems, pulse width modulated power converters.
The experimental validation of a novel architecture of an off-board, three-phase fast battery charger for electric vehicles (EVs) with innovative operation modes is presented in this paper. The proposed EV fast battery charger is based on a dual-stage power converter (ac-dc and dc-dc) sharing the same dc-link. The ac-dc stage is used as an interface between the power grid and the dc-link. It is composed of the parallel association of two full-bridge voltage-source converters, and allows control of the grid current and of the dc-link voltage. The dc-dc stage is used as an interface between the dc-link and the batteries. It is constituted by a bidirectional three-level asymmetrical voltage-source converter, and controls the flux of current during the EV battery charging process. Compared with the traditional solutions used for EV fast battery chargers, the proposed architecture operates as an interleaved converter, facilitating the reduction of the passive filters size and the grid current harmonic distortion for the same switching frequency. Throughout the paper, the ac-dc and dc-dc stages, and the digital control algorithms are described in detail. The experimental validation was performed in a laboratory using a developed EV fast battery charger prototype, operating through the grid-to-vehicle (G2V) and the proposed charger-to-grid (C2G) modes, exchanging active and reactive power with the power grid.
This paper presents the development of an on-board bidirectional battery charger for Electric Vehicles (EVs) targeting Grid-to-Vehicle (G2V), Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G), and Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) technologies. During the G2V operation mode the batteries are charged from the power grid with sinusoidal current and unitary power factor. During the V2G operation mode the energy stored in the batteries can be delivered back to the power grid contributing to the power system stability. In the V2H operation mode the energy stored in the batteries can be used to supply home loads during power outages, or to supply loads in places without connection to the power grid. Along the paper the hardware topology of the bidirectional battery charger is presented and the control algorithms are explained. Some considerations about the sizing of the AC side passive filter are taken into account in order to improve the performance in the three operation modes. The adopted topology and control algorithms are accessed through computer simulations and validated by experimental results achieved with a developed laboratory prototype operating in the different scenarios.
This paper proposes a single-phase reconfigurable battery charger for Electric Vehicle (EV) that operates in three different modes: Grid-to-Vehicle (G2V) mode, in which the traction batteries are charged from the power grid; Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) mode, in which the traction batteries deliver part of the stored energy back to the power grid; and in Traction-to-Auxiliary (T2A) mode, in which the auxiliary battery is charged from the traction batteries. When connected to the power grid, the battery charger works with sinusoidal current in the AC side, for both G2V and V2G modes, and also regulates the reactive power. When the EV is disconnected from the power grid, the control algorithms are modified and the full-bridge AC-DC bidirectional converter works as a full-bridge isolated DC-DC converter that is used to charge the auxiliary battery of the EV, avoiding the use of an additional charger to accomplish this task. To assess the behavior of the proposed reconfigurable battery charger under different operation scenarios, a 3.6 kW laboratory prototype has been developed and experimental results are presented.
Malakoplakia is a rare acquired disease that can affect many systems but is more common in the urogenital tract. Cutaneous malakoplakia is even rarer. It is far more frequent in immunodeficient patients. We report a case of cutaneous malakoplakia in a kidney transplant patient who had recently stopped receiving immunosuppressive therapy to illustrate a review of the relevant recent literature.
This paper presents a comprehensive study about a Simplified Rail Power Conditioner (SRPC) based on a half-bridge indirect AC/DC/AC Modular Multilevel Converter (MMC) and a V/V traction power transformer. The proposed system with a half-bridge MMC can decrease the costs, reduce the control complexity, and require less hardware devices in comparison with the rail power conditioner based on a full-bridge indirect AC/DC/AC MMC. Moreover, the SRPC with a half-bridge MMC is able to compensate current harmonics, reactive power, and the Negative Sequence Components (NSCs) of currents, which are caused by the unbalance loads between power grid phases. This paper explains the system architecture and its control algorithms based on a pulse-width modulation and a proportional-integral controller, which is used to control the compensation currents. The simulation results of the SRPC show the submodule voltage balancing control and the DC-bus voltage control in order to verify its effectiveness. The compensation strategy based on the NSCs detection is described and evaluated through simulation results.
